one has a hard drive one doesn't? but what does this mean for me? can someone explain?

You can store porn on one, on the other you can't.

You can upgrade from the "lesser" 360 to the "greater" 360. The systems themselves are exactly the same, just one comes with different stuff.

Lesser 360: 64MB memory unit, wired controller
Greater 360: 20GB hard drive, wireless controller, headset

The price difference between the two is $100, but the more expensive pack is worth about $170 more. So technically, buying the more expensive one will save you $70.

They're not EXACTLY the same. The disc tray on the expensive one is chrome, and it comes with component cables.

i think i prefer the look of the non-chrome tray. man gears of war looks so good, but i can't decide between the 360 and the Wii.

I prefer the white tray too. Makes the console look more consistant too :) Couldn't give a crap about wireless controllers, hate having to change batteries.

You can get the hard drive and heatset etc for cheap if you shop around.

is the hard drive necessary? i mean, what is the difference between using memory cards and using the hard drive? do they serve different purposes? i am confused.

Don't some games use the HDD to reduce loading times? I remember reading about oblivion using it to cache some data on it to speed up the loading time.

I'm currently deciding whetever I should buy a Xbox 360 or Nintendo Wii... It would be nice to see some test results between the Core and Premium packets. If the loading times are like 10s shorter with the HD, then I won't bother buying the Premium. Although I'm going to have to buy wireless controllers and the better cable.

Luckily the local store here promised that I can borrow the Wii and 360 for free for one weekend. ^^

A 360 or Wii is a hard choice.

Definately get a hard drive if you do pick up a 360, though, you can't go on Live without. GoW is a superb game, but not nearly as good if you can't take it online to play co-op and 4 vs 4 with friends. With Live it is easily my GOTY (Zelda TP may change this - exciting times :)), without it'd jyst be good, but not that great.

Add all the demos, arcade games, connectivity to your pc for music and vids, and various other bits and pieces, and owning a HD and a Live subscription is absolutely essential if you have a 360.

Meh, I don't find it so difficult to decide what console to get. One is the same thing been produced for years..how many consoles do you know like the Wii?

Muwahaha.

If you plan on ever going online, the Premium is more than worth it.

Gears of War is pretty awesome, but frankly it's not worth the price of a 360 just to play the game. Have a look at other titles that are out/coming out first.

As far as multiplayer goes, Wii seems to be focussed on superior local (same console) play, while the 360 is more about online play.

Also, the premium package doesn't have a headset. Atleast mine didn't, but there is one in the Live package.

My premium pack came with a headset. So did my brothers and 2 friends.

Gears of War is awesome, but not worth the price of a 360+GOW. Wait for it to come out on PC in a year or so.

Aye i got a headset with Premium too.

However im in Uni halls until mid next year, so i cant go Live as most ports are blocked on the godly 10mb bband line until i move out. Cant even play WoW anymore (actually im thankful for that). Atleast Steam works.

But yeah, GoW is awesome, but not worth the price if you cant go online. Wii is amazing sure, but 360 is the way to go for social gaming. Oh, and the Wii is pretty much sold out everywhere lol. Cant remember if it was Play.com or Amazon, but their ENTIRE Wii stock sold out in 1 minute apparently.

I wouldn't say so. It has built in Wi-fi and games like Battalion Wars 2 will be online in 2007. I think online games will be huge on the Wii when 3rd parties start using it.
