Ubisoft Unveiled "Red Steel"!

It look really really good considering how underpowered everyone seems to think the Rev is! I just hope its not all action--that might be fun for a while, but I would also like to see some other crafty uses for the remote in situations outside of combat....

I'm looking forward to using it as a steering wheel for Mario Kart (assuming they put it to use like that), using it to fight somehow in Smash Bros, swing my sword in Zelda, smash some serves in Mario Tennis and play silly mini-games in a Mario Party.

The remote seems to be used for nodding and shaking your head when interacting with npcs, which could be pretty neat. The parts which stood out for me:

'The first third of the game will be all about being "brutal by necessity"'

'As you progress and become more precise, smaller guns will be used'

'The goal...is to use five bullets to kill five enemies'

'When fighting with this level of skill, the music and sound effects will reflect it, remaining calm and peaceful'

'When you fight brutally, the sounds around you grow increasingly more intense'

'Freeze shot: by fighting effciently you fill the Freeze Shot gauge...fighting chaotically causes to decreases'

'When the gauge is filled you can hit a button to momentarily stop time, and then target specific locations on enemy bodies'

'Headshots thus are tempting, but non lethal shots, such as shooting guns out of enemy hand, can be more beneficial'

'In the finished game, you will be able to push forward with the controller to knock over an object to use for cover, pull it backwards to reload, and twist it to lead behind walls'

'Lob grenades with the controller, or roll them on the ground like a bowling ball'

'Specific motions with the controller will trigger combos (in the final game) Tracing an X in the air, for instance, will unleash a devastating attack'

How long after the release of the Revolution do you think it'll take Sony and MS to bring out their own Revolution-esque controllers? (Under patent, of course), and then for the PC. Good times.

It depends on whether the controller is a hit or a flop. But I definatley think it will be a hit...so not long. In short, Nintendo's innovation means that everyone copies, so everyone wins. I can't wait for a windows-OS based on a 3d controller.

Probably not long - a little like when Sony hastily tried to produce their own analogue controller to match the N64s. It wasn't untill the PS2 that they got it right, though, or had decent games that used analogue well (we still haven't seen analogue control that can match Mario 64 on any system - you can't beat games designed around a specific controller :))

Seperately sold peripherals within 2 years. No real support though until at the earliest the next consoles from Sony and MS.

Ha! That's ace. But so so true.

I predict Sony will show their own version of the Revolution remote before the end of the year.

Sony of all companies, will have recognised the massmarket potential of Nintendo's new control system.

Just look at the other control interfaces they've been experimenting with recently. These clearly share the same philosophy as the Revolution - and have been very successful at catching the mainstream dollar.

Oh, and I bet something else as well.
Only when Sony has released their 'cool', 'lifestyle' version of Nintendo's controller, will it suddenly become accepted as a serious gaming interface
