What is with this BS that I HAVE to be connected to the web to play the game? And if I want to play offline I have to disconnect my CatV???

I paid $55.00 for this game and I am forced to jump through ridiculous hoops to just install and play. an hour and a half to install and register. Now I have to worry about people hacking my account and causing me to loose my ability to play a game I paid for.

To play offline I have to jump through another 10 hoops. After all is said and done the game STILL was pirated by many people and I am willing to bet that the hackers and pirates will find 10 other ways around this supposed "security" which causes nothing but grief for us legitimate users.

I LOVE the game, don't get me wrong, but Steam needs to go the way of the dodo.

And to everyone who is going to flame this newbie for making this comment for the hundredth time, tough, I am tired of paying top dollar for software and deal with this crap, You want to secure your software folks!?!? INCLUDE A HARDWARE KEY!!! Many high end programs require a physical dongle to be connected to your system to run the program and piracy is not impossible but more hassle than it's worth.

I am going to keep playing HL2 but something NEEDS to be done about this BS Steam crap having to be loaded EVERYTIME you play.

get over it. you've wasted enough bandwidth and time making that post, while you could be using that to connect to steam.
get a firewall if you want to play in offline mode and block Steam from connecting to the internet. If you have broadband, why are you bothered?

Because it takes time and extra resources on my system which is unneccesary. I HAVE a firewall and it actually caused more problems to block Steam from connecting ie lockups.

I am bothered by the fact that all these companies are making the legitimate purchaser of products jump through ridiculous hoops after giving them a good amount of our hard earned money to not accomplish a damn thing.

XP has to be registered online, it takes a "snapshot" of your system specs and that is all unless you reinstall, it did not stop piracy but it was somewhat effective because now you can't install the same software on multiple machines without another license (which of course can be pirated) But if discovered you then get your account deactivated and knowing M$ a not so nice visit from their lawyers.

Steam took that idea and overcomplicated it and turns out actually causes more problems than it solves.

I am just tired of the fact that companies have completley lost touch. Instead of actually testing this stuff they kinda throw it somewhat through a half assed QA process and leave it to US to actually deal with the bugs, problems and annoyances.

The way they should have done it was like XP, have an online registration then never have to log on again unless you want to play online, once you do that it re-verifies through a system check and then you can download patches, updates etc.
