There're various reasons for a thread closure, if I'm honest I'll say I don't agree with the mods 100% of the time, but there is usually a good reason.

Sometimes, even though a mod doesn't personally think the thread should be closed, he/she will close it by popular request. I've had a few threads closed like that: where I PMed the mod involved afterwards, asking why, and they said "a load of people said it should be closed so I locked it, even though personally I wouldn't have."
