The strange thing is though Matt, i have far more respect for the Queen then i ever did Tony Blair. The Royal family are also the biggest land owning family in the world and they are worth a heck of a lot of money, they also have money coming in as well.

Many of the people who want England to be a republic have no idea what it would mean for England to change to a republic and think that England would suddenly become a better place. England would be worse without a monarchy, England is a country that is still stooped in history and culture, and the monarchy is an integral part of that culture, that is why so many Americans and foreigners come to England, so they can see the culture and the history that both England and the royal family represent.

The Queen is also the greatest ambassador for the British people that anyone could ever be, when a world meets the Queen, they aren't just meeting another world leader, they are meeting someone much greater.

The monarchy is the only thing stopping us from turnining into an America clone tbh. I dont want that to happen, we are an unique country there is no other place like us. I like that

get rid of the monarchy... 'president' sounds infinitely cooler

also, no1 wants to make a movie about the 'prime minister'
but once there's a president, we'll get all those ridiculous movies where the president runs around saving world from commies and stray cattle!

President sucks, King, Queen or Emperor sound infinitely better then "President". And why is it unecessary and unsuitable in this day and age? Why should we abandon our past and our culture just so we can be more like bloody America.

Hah well its the reason we are unique. But we are not unique by having a queen... if that makes sense

The UK as a whole loves the monarchy. While there will always be a minority who are opposed to this institution, IMO it provides a valuable link to our past, and offers us a sense of what it is to be British.

Besides, we got rid of our King once, installed a dictator (who became massively unpopular). His son took over upon his death, and was promptly booted out, only for the King's son to return to the throne.

Personally, I hope we always have a monarchy. The idea of a single person being head of state through an accident of birth is so silly, it could only be described as British.
