So guys, me and a friend are thinking of taking a trip... We have been thinking for a while, and now we are actually saving a little cash... We want to leave country and experience something new, that said, we don't want to be the normal "tourist".... What we really want is a break where we can go some where new, get completely hammered and enjoy some cool night life :naughty: We live in the middle of nowhere, the club/bar scene sucks here, and all the people know eachother and their grandmothers, this is why we must get out for a while.
My Question then is, where should we go in the UK, in order to find a really fun time, really cool people, really relaxed enviroment and a pretty cool night scene? :smoking:
I say UK because my friend visted there on a school trip a few years back and he enjoyed it a lot, but obviously didn't get to have the kind of fun he wanted because it was a school affiliated trip, with teachers and parents chaperoning (sp?)... So? Tell me..

Well I suppose for night life you just need to go...well...anywhere :O. Seriously though, I suppose just choose one of the bigger cities and go. London would be the obvious choice I suppose, but there are other places to like Manchester :D (Manchester of course being the city closest to me :))
Manchester is a fun place to come because as a reuslt of a bomb that basically destroyed a large part of the central city (not killing anyone though) it has been rebuilt and looks rather nice. The people are friendly enough, although there are obviously palces you don't want to go but on a night out you can usaually talk to anyone, especially if you are foriegn. Its also cheaper to buy drinks in the north of England, if thats the kind of thing you want.

There is are a lot of places around you can visit too, like the lake district, and so forth. Manchester is right near a national park, the peak district and the surrounding towns are quite nice to visit...well...some of them.

Tourqay can be quite good if you pick a decent location. Good surf and good night life.

That said, it might be worth while looking at Turkey. I went there a couple of years ago and the drink costs next to nothing and the place I stayed was about a 10 min walk from "Bar street". Literally a street consisting entirely of nightclubs, about 30 of them. Fantastic :)

London = expensive for EVERYTHING but ptobubly the best night life in the country. Don't come to Wales. The nightlife sucks here. I've heared that Edinburgh, Glasgow or even Dublin are good places to go for a good time (with some touristy bits to do in between the bouts of drinking).

Hmmm, well farrowlesparrow, how far is Manchester, from London? If we get two weeks like we hope, maybe we could just stay a few days here, and a few there. :)

Oh, well in that case yeah. If you drive by night it only takes about 5 hours to get from Manchester to London.

Heheh, I suggest something entirely different to London.

Come up north to near newcaste. The night life is fantastic. The people are more or less all very friendly and whats more is you can laugh at the accent! :p

Also, near newcastle there is alot of great touristie places too. :)

Someone back me up here eh!

Glasgow sounds cool as well... Something about it, I think I just like the name. The only bad part of the whole thing is, its going to take us forever to save enough money :(... Maybe by spring break-summer we will be ready to go.
Newcastle eh? (and whats the difference in accents? Stupid question I know, but i've never been to the UK :P )

I'd suggest staying away from Manchester, due to the size and the fact that you would most likley get lost in one of it's many dodgy areas and get robbed.

Leeds has cool night-life in the centre of town. Go there.

As a matter of fact, you probably wouldn't notice much difference really. When a couple of Americans stayed at our house, they sounded very similar to us, but they could hardly understand each other because of their accents. I know its a strong accent in newcastle, so you may ntoice a bit of a different but if you can understand the rest of the country then you will probably understand them.

There is nothing wrong with Manchester :O I think he would know where to avoid by instinct more than anything. Besides, there are police around all the time, and you never have to leave the main places where the bars are, even when you are getting a train or bus.

Every city has its bad areas...

Mind you, if you wana get shot, stabbed or robbed go to nottingham where I used to live........ :P

Nar jk, Nottingham is good really. Just stay out of snenton, saint annes, the medows, forrest fields and.... thats about it really. ;)

EDIT: Heheh, Nottingham was the first city in the UK to have armed police regulaly patroling the streets. It also has the second highest violent crime rate in the UK second only the london. Heheh, hell the last time i visited I was walking in town and there was a police line barocade thing in the middle of town with blood all over the floor.....

.... scared yet?

Ha, you have chosen the two worst places for hard to understand accents. Here's a video with example of Geordies (People from Newcastle) talking:

http://ben.clarke.free.fr/downloads/movies/grv002.wmv

That's pretty heavy, even for Geordie.

I remember a story on the local news once. There was this young Geordie lad who was going to go on the Jay Leno show, but once they heard him talk they decided to not have him on. Turns out that they thought that no one would be able to understand him.

Heheh, I moved up here (Near newcastle) last september and there is still the odd time where I have to get people to repeat things because I dont understand the first time round... or the second or third. :p

They are really really nice people though. Its sooo peacefull compared to nottingham.... :) lol

There has only been one nasty little bastard try and fight me this whole year. There were usually about 1 a month minimum at my old school in nottingham. (Due to me talking back to them and generally wanting to knock their teeth out.... :P)

if you come to the UK, don't just go to one city!

it'd be ideal if you were coming for two weeks. that way you could do a sort of mini-tour of the UK. i'd suggest, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff and London. if you visit those six cities, you'll probably get the best out of your time here.

Farrow, i'm sorry to say, in my experience, that Manchester's night life pales in comparison to London :o although Glasgow/Edinburgh are very funky cities to go out to.

check out www.viewlondon.co.uk if you're planning coming to london.

have a great time wherever you choose to go :)

Pff...Thats because you live in London and you don't know the city :P

Nobody knows my special little Manchesterkins like me :o

Can you remember what places you did go to when you came here? Because there are a lot of very generic bars that the trendy people go to and then there are places a little more out of the way, where the real fun is. Like 5th Av(Not a street...A club type place)

Hey thanks guys! Gotta show this thread to my friend before work tonight... Hopefully all of us forumites will still be hanging around here 6 months or more down the road (closer to time that I want to go) then maybe I could meet some of you guys, maybe have a drink, you could show me around the places :)

if ur coming to the UK, i suggest going to Newquay (spelling?) in Cornwall, very good nightlife ( the place to go nowadays :p ) and good beaches also, u can fly there from london if you dont want to sit in a car/coach for 6-7 hours.

Oooh yeah thats what i'm talking about Farrowlesparrow, authentic stuff... Heh, if i wanted "trendy" pop clubs I could find that around here... And oh its obvious that I have to ask (on behalf of me and my friend) any hot chicks ;)

EDIT: I'd also like to add, does anyone know what it takes to gain citezenship in the UK? Just in case I visit and decide I want to stay? ;)

I would say for most certain...Yes. Probably more than there are attractive guys which is always a bonus I would say...Edit: Didnt make sense o_O
But yeah, it does depend a lot on what you like though. For instance, that place I mentioned, 5th Avenue, its an indie/rock type place. I'm not sure if you know what indie is exactly, but an old example would be Oasis, although they don't play that music there. The out of the way places are generally more specialised like that really. So you get RnB clubs, Bangra clubs etc...

Edit: I'm not entirely sure about getting citizenship, but I'm sure www.google.co.uk has the answer :O

Don't come to Wales. The nightlife sucks here.
Crap, is it really that bad? I was thinking of going to university there. Bah.....
And I was told that nottingham was a nice city.... I really am misinformed

hey its cool with me as long as its not rap, country... i actually like indie rock type stuff. Please tell me, oh God please tell me you guys don't have our (American) dreaded country music there! (thanks for the links)

lol, I scared someone away!! :(

Allthough all those things a said about nottingham are infact true. You muse not be put off. Nottingham is infact a fantastic city. I loved my time ther personally (most of my life till last sept).

Just watch what you say to people in certain areas thats all. :p

Ahahaha....Oh wait you were serious.

Well ther are some die hard line dancers and stuff but I think there are about 30 people in the country who listen to that music.

Farrow i went to both of the university bars (Manc City and Manc Metropolitan), both were fairly decent as far as student places go. there wasn't much else though, most places were RnB orientated or were too posh. didn't spend long enough on manchester to find the really good stuff. might go up again mid september for freshers week with a mate, hopefully spend a bit more time.

Innervision here's a link for getting British citizenship www.uknationality.gov.uk i don't know why they have a picture of stone henge on that page though :hmph: they should have a photo of a fat pie eating england supporter with a pint in his hand. (you'll see a lot of those if you come to west london :( ) the music varies accross the country. most kids like RnB or pop, but there's plenty of rock/indie/alternative places to hang out in almost every city.

Cool, thanks a bunch guys, i'm checking all the links out and heading off to sleep...Gotta work tonight :( but if you guys can think of anything else to add, its appreciated.

if you go around the country, make sure you stop in brighton. it has teh best clubs and bars for miles, and a wonderful pebble beach. seriously the place is alive with stuedents and young couples at night, wonderful beach- very kewl.

COME TO BRIGHTON OR ILL KILL YA!

*cough* i mean... errr.. we have a big shopping centre :)

ah London....Pollution...Busy as HELL and the case of 'Spot the White Man'. Interesting place :smoking:

I can highly recommend Manchester (i have to say that 'cos i live here :p ) or alternatively Newcastle, Leeds or Liverpool (in that order).

Why not go to Amsterdam if you want to party? I am planning a visit there soon, from what I've heard and seen the night life there is amazing.

Amsterdam is known for its nightlife because everyone has heard their attitude towards drugs and loose women.
