What would be your ideal computer for games - go into as much detail (even include prices if you want)...

Trying to do some research for college...Will be piecing together information (as it suits me :) )

Cheers!

Summer rig I might get:
Conroe of ownage(hopefully it won't be too expensive)
nVidia 8800GT 512 (bring it on UT2k7 and Crysis!)
Some Intel SLI mobo
2-4GB DDR2 800
400GB Sata(2) HD(maybe two for Raid0)
Creative Labs X-Fi
Kick arse Antec or Thermaltake case
Maybe some watercooling
And a powersupply to run it all.

I figure this would cost me about $14-1800

I'd just have an entire room dedicated to gaming.
Comp specifications (I'm not so up-to-date anymore, but meh :p)
Dual nVidia 8800 GTX 512MB SLI (I don't care if it exists or not)
Pwnage mobo, probably from Lanparty
4-8 GB DDR3 RAM (with the highest clockspeeds available :D)
Two 1 Terabyte HDs (Yes, they exist)
Dunno the sound card, probably Creative
Nice case with loads of cooling, maybe a server case so I can fit in more hard drives/ more brightful neon colours ^-^
Dual Athlon 64 FXs or something with outrageous amounts of MHz.
A nice Lightscribe DVD/CD Writer
An Antec 450W power supply.
A bloody plasma television as my screen (maybe dual? :O :p)
A wireless keyboard (probably Logitech)
An MX1000 (I already have this! :p)

Would probably cost like 3000€-4000€.

GeForce 8's are coming out this year? :O
If so, I'm getting me two of those bitches. With a new everything else of course!

Avoiding Intel Pentium 4, long pipelines and latency for gaming is the sux. =p

Depending on how the chips line up with price when released, either Conroe or Athlon 64 X2 (AM2 socket).
2GB DDR2 800 (2x1GB)
I'm not much of a SLI/Crossfire guy so probably just an X1900XTX, with a compusa replacement plan of course. ;)
The new 150GB Raptor would be nice.
A good brand name Powersupply with at least 500 Watt.
Audigy2ZS, Audigy4 or X-FI Creative card.

Yeah, and once you get that you can go ahead and send me your current PC. :naughty:

I'd go for:

Lian Li PC-V2000
again, either conroe or X2 64 (AM2)
2GB DDR2 800Mhz
DFI Mobo, either crossfire or sli (similiar to asus, i'm not all that interested in dual card solutions, but nice to have the mobo in place in case it does become a tempting solution)
X1900XTX
150GB Raptor + 250 GB Hitachi Deskstar (Media storage, videos, music etc)
FSP Sparkle FX700-GLN Epsilon 700W PSU
Audigy X-Fi Soundcard

And cooling wise, as tempting as water-cooling is, i'd proabably go with artic cooling solutions on the CPU and GPU.

So basically, your homework is something like "what parts etc would you use to build a good gaming pc?", and you just posted your threads in here, and have gone off to play games while forumites go do your researching etc for you, and then you will come back and use the (bits of) posts that suit you best?

Good thinking.

its called market research more-so...
It doesn't matter what you call it! You can sit on your ass while bored forumites do the work! You should patent that idea! Why do something when you can get others to do it? Outstanding use of resources. A+. :P

im not sure if i can patent market research...someone came up with it a long time ago...
This is just less specific.

ok - my marketing proposal is to set up a Lan Café...However I need to prepare everything such as start up costs and I am trying to see what kinda systems people are looking for (i fell out of the loop because of lack of money so couldnt buy PC Gamer anymore).

This is a gamer forum and therefore people have ideas. If i was sitting on my ass i would have somebody else posting here and monitoring it while dealing with particular comments such as yours while i lounge around in bed or something similar...

Just a thought.... I have no idea about your project, but as far as i know they don't tend to run top end gaming rigs in lan cafe's do they ? Just mentioning in case that is of any use.

Run some scrap togethers as your standard PC's in the Cafe, and have a few Higher end PC's scattered around.

The higher end PC's would cost more/a frequent drinker card. As long as you can keep so many stamps on your card each month (a stamp = maybe a coffee and a donut) you can use the high end PC's at no extra charge.

Meh. I wouldn't buy normal parts if I could. I'd send the mobo I do choose to be sent off to add 6 more PCIe slots.

i wish i had lots of money to build a dream pc

anyway, heres my dream specs:-

AMD Athlon FX 62 overclocked like mad
DFI Lan party socket AM2 mobo
Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTX SLIed with dual gpu (mad overclocked)
4 GB of DDR 2 ram at 800 mhz
2* 150 gb HDD at 15,000 RPM
Ageia Physx card with 128 mb of ram
X-FI Fatal1ty with 64 mb of xram
30 inch HD LCD TV
water cooling kit
800 Watt of PSU
Maybe 7.1 speakers
