Uma Thurman's new film seen by just one person on opening day

The film took just £88 at the British box office on its opening weekend.

On its debut Sunday, takings at the box office were just £9 - the price of a ticket for one person.

Barry Norman, the film critic, said: “I have never heard of anything like this before. This is not some small, independent movie.

"It’s astonishing that only about 11 people could be bothered to go and see Uma Thurman.

“The reviews were very poor indeed, but that alone isn’t enough to explain this. It’s a reasonable assumption that there was a marketing and advertising catastrophe, and people didn’t know it was showing.

ouch

Not as funny when you read further

Motherhood, which also stars Jodie Foster and Minnie Driver, is thought to have made only £40,000 when it opened in America last year, despite costing around £3.4 million to make.

Still pretty funny though.

a great way to end a career

Almost as badly performing as this thread, sorry Stern, no-ones interested.

I don't know, the fact a movie from a major movie studio selling one ticket on it's opening day is pretty damn interesting.

Five posts in 40 mins is pretty damn good for a Films, TV and DVD thread here. Get a girlfriend.

you replied 10 minutes after this thread was posted! dotn you think it's a little early to call? sheesh talk about blowing your load before your pants are unzipped

I didn't even believe this was real until I clicked the link. How absurd.

I wonder if that one person who saw it is Uma's biggest fan or something.

this is probably the worst post i have ever seen

you are terrible at boarding

and yeah get a girlfriend

This probably just made the top of some future Cracked.com list.

to be fair calling it "uma thurman's new film" all the time in the article doesn't help >_>

but yeah I had no idea she had a new film :|

How is this possible? Surely we have some Uma Thurman fans that would go to see this movie only for her? Or some mothers to which this story might appeal? Or some people that just want to go to the cinema to see whatever's playing?

I normally agree with Krynn but don't listen to him when he says get a girlfriend, not worth the stress and it will only make you more bitter. Sounds like the guy just needs to get a friend, period.

Trollin' trollin' trollin', rawhide! (Call it a momentary lapse, I apologize Stern, your threads keep HL2.net worth visiting, aside from the Gman speculation.)

Oooooo meeeow! someone's feeling a bit catty. :cat:

Anyway I don't need friends, I got tons on Myspace, that makes me cool, rite?

Coincidently I table the motion that 'get a girlfriend' becomes either the tag line for HL2.net or a community expression of camaraderie and affection for your fellow regulars.

May you all get a girlfriend.

Girlfriends just get in the way of my Persona time.

I'd never heard of this film till I opened this thread. That's probably something to do with the problem.

I laughed pretty hard.

What I dont get is how the film opened in the UK (Britain) on sunday and got £9...

But then it says the weekend total earnings was £88...

So if it opened on Sunday, only one person saw it on Sunday...how did it get £88 instead of 9 on the weekend?

Either way, I laughed. Some actors just need to fade away like their movie quality.

And Ive always hated her googly eyes.

Opening weekend it was only shown in a single cinema in the UK. Also DVD release was simultaneous and advertising was non-existent.

Still, pretty weak showing.

Only one British cinema was given permission to launch the film earlier this month, with the film’s producers hoping that exclusivity would generate a buzz and lead to box office success by word of mouth.
Well that's just ****ing silly!

What? Fire the head of marketing for that cockup WTF?!

lol this marketing company is an absolute joke. No wonder they are pissed with them...
Over the course of the week leading up to Mother’s Day we also released the film on DVD, video on demand and pay per view so customers could choose how to watch the film.
So they released the film on DVD too, right away. Bad films 'straight to DVD' on hyperdrive? Simultaneous cinema / DVD release

it's now going to garner attention at the theatres because of this colossal ****-up, eitherway. still a bad move.
