Unable to use trip mines in HL2?

Is this a glitch or something intended with HL2? I find what look like trip mines sitting near medkits and other ammo. I can pick them up and relocate them, but I can't use them like grenades and such.
 
what do you mean excactly "use them like grenades and such"?

They are not added to your weapon list like ammo or grenades or guns. I remember you had trip mines in HL1. These look very similar (sorry, no screenshot yet), but all you can do is pick them up and toss them like a paint can or crate.
 
you have to stand right next to the wall to place them on the walls. the animation changes when you're close enough
 
Okay you gotta put them next to the wall and then push ALT-F4. That will activate them! :D

Alt-TAB or alt-f4 usually works, or sometimes just holding in the button on the front of your PC works.
 
yeh and while your at it, Take out your PSU with oyour bare hands while your computer is on.
 
He's not talking about the SLAMs from HLDM. He's talking about the mines that are dropped in Anticitizen One. Those you cannot use like inventory weapons. If you pick them up with your gravity gun then place them other places, they become friendly mines. If you shoot them farther, they will explode on contact like a grenade.
 
On a semi-related note, walk up to one of the weapon storage racks (inside the Overwatch library in Follow Freeman) and hit E. Your weapon disappears and you hear a "click", but nothing else happens.
