uninventive weapon selection?

i found the disintegrator beam on the pulse rifle cool, along with the bugbait. there was also supposed to be the ability to throw headcrabs, but that was cut.

more areas where you got to use antlions would have been good too - they sat in inventory most of the game.

I think they didn't want the weapons selection to end up like Opposing Force - imaginative, yet bloated and unnecissary.

The Overwatch rifle secondary fire is unconventional and kicked ass. I was a little disapoited though.

While playing through the game I never really felt there needed to be more weapons, the game was paced well enough, with enough variety, so that I never really got tired of the weapons (including vehicles, hoppers and turrets) they gave. It was when I finished the game that I realized that I didn't see some weapons that I had heard about.

All the weapons they had were great (well, I wish you use pherapods more often). But I wish that there were more, like the tau cannon or sniper rifle.

The game lacked guns in some areas, there was no BFG (just BFG in a general sense, Gluon, redeemer, actual bfg etc...) Sure the rockets kinda filled this void but whenever you needed to use them there's be a rocket box nearby diminishing their "legendary" status.

It also missed out an a few tactical weapons, being able to put hoppers in your inventory would be nice but that may have been a balance issue.

And about the pheropods, they were awesome and it did suck not being able to use them in any chapter other than NS but i guess antlions live only on the beach, owell, better luck next time i guess.

The only things wrong with the weapons in half-life 2, were that:
1) You couldn't hold nearly enough ammunition.
2) Every single gun (besides the Magnum and Crossbow) were [/I]horribly[/I]...horribly inaccurate.

the weapons are inaccurate for a reason - to make each battle more challenging and longer so that cs campers would actually have to learn to fight for once

The apparent lack of ammo for the Pulse Rifle was the thing that annoyed me the most, and (off topic) the Combine troops were pushovers when it came to fighting the bugs.

Still, I love the Overwatch rifle anyway, huge misshapen gun-beast that it is.

Arr... non of you love the RPG! I loved the fact that i didn't work out how to use it until i got to Nova Prospekt.

:)

Bah. Spraying more challenging than having to use cover and aim for the head - what? Accuracy was one of my main complaints about the automatics in Hl2, fair enough with the MP7 but for both of them to have roughly the same firecone seemed a bit lame, there was no need for the pulse rifle to spit rounds all over the place. Accuracy didn't change for crouching or jumping either, which was a shame.

Having said that, all the weapons were balanced to perfection. I used to think having a fat selection of weapons would be sweet, but after Unreal2, I'd rather have them few and balanced.

I found the pulse rifle quite accurate if you fire in short bursts, I could consistently hit combines at the longest distance frequently encountered in the game if I fired carefully.

Tynan: That's like 50% of time... Sometimes even the first round flies off somewhere way off.

I think of a bunch of weapons you guys are leaving out... radiators, shelving units, fuel barrels, tires, folding chairs, desks, 2x4s, saw blades...

:)

yeah... those can be considered weapons... but we need "real" weapons. I really miss the sniper... I thought they were going to include it since i've seen it in the beta stages. :smoking:

I missed the snipers, too, and I especially missed the assassiness that's suppose to use the sniper. :p

man molotov cocktails wouldve awesome, thyre perfect for the resistance fighter. loved them in gta.

maybe you pull out a bottle of vodka with a rag, then you see your right light the cocktail with a lighter, now thatd be awesome.

To be honest I only really used the standard SMG and the Shotgun, occasionally the Combine Rifle.

IMO the Pherapods were criminally under used - they just sat in my inventory after Nova Prospekt, I kept trying them in case the antlions were still about but nothing! Secondary Fire should have been break them open and it releases more pheramone (spelling?) to call an Antlion Guard. Sure it's as likely to attack you as it is the Combine but causes absolute chaos - fun fun fun!!!

I really liked the snarks from the first game, sit in a vent and launch them into the crowded room below. Satchel charges and Tripmines were pretty cool too - definitely could have done with more trap setting moments. Instead we had to deal with those infuriatingly dangerous 'Hoppers'.

You can use the pherapods on Combine Soldiers. It sort of stuns them as they wave their arms around trying to get the crap off of them.

As for diff weapons I would have liked to see a grapple hook, perhaps a compound bow instead of the done-to-death crossbow or perhaps a needler that would fire like 20 bolts and pin enemies like the crossbow. I hated that little SMG. Lame as hell as was the pistol. The stupid thing was that the pistol and SMG were the same 9mm calibre weapons and yet when you pick up ammo for either of them it displays different ammo images on your HUD. The SMG ammo images looked more like 7.62mm rounds, like for an AK47 or something. 9mm rounds are 9mm rounds. Period.

You ppl are complaining about a lack of weapons, but using grav gun makes everything a weapon!

I hate the pulse rifle. It looks and feels like crap (except secondary fire).
Other weapons are really nice.

How about Flashbang! :E
I'd like see more stationary weapons like HL1 had. Also more vehicles!

How about the overused EMP grenade that's in so many FPSs.
Shuts down overwatch rifles, apcs and helicopter.
That would have been good
