Universal Union???

I've read in several topics something about a Universal Union?
Can someone explain this for me, please.

The Universal Union is, in simple terms, the Combine Empire. When the Combine take over worlds and species, they integrate them into their own lifestyle and force them into this union of other conquered races.

Humanity is next on the list of being integrated into the Universal Union. We can see evidence of this from humans being made into Stalkers, our technology being stolen (helicopters) and sought after (local teleportation) , and our resources being drained.

no necessarily,stalkers were usually people that resisted the takeover,simply,if you were caught with guns and captured,you became a stalker,the Universal Union was just the combines subjects,there is a very thin wire between subject and stalker

If I may repeat myself:

Why do people keep calling them the "Universal Union"? It's a pet peeve of mine; the only time we ever hear that is from Breen, the subtitles show its not even capitalized. It's a description, not a name.

It makes about as much sense to call them that as to call them "The Good Authority" because Breen says that in his reproduction speech "I have it on good authority that that day is close at hand" etcetera.

Actually yeah, lets just call them the Good Authority from now on, okay? :rolling:

I like to imagine inside of my brainosphere that the universal union are actually ok dudes, an enlightened post-scarcity utopian society who nevertheless turn a blind eye to their military arm utterly crushing whole dimensions

note: I have no particular reason to think this, it just makes my smile glands swell
