im gettign a new computer either this week or next and \m just wondering. i dont want to upgrade too soon in the future so i need some guesses.

i know nothing is known about it but do you think ill be able to play it with:

athlon 64 fx-53
1gb pc3200 ddr400 ram (2x512)
x800 xt

also, what card will be better for it the x800xt or geforce 6800 ultra and wil there be that noticable of a difference?!

thanks! :)

That will play it but its hard to tell. Technology can change alot when its expected to be released in 2006. I know the mimimum spec is dx9 but I dont know if its 9.0b or 9.0c. I think it will need atleast a 2ghz processor and 512 ram to run. But these are just estimates. I wouldnt expect that computer to run it on high resolutions and high detail though when the engine ships in 2006. A computer built with top of the line part today should be able to run it on 1024x768 with medium/low detail. Buts its hard to say.

Well, any game using the Unreal Engine 3.0 is still a couple years away, so I doubt any computer you can make now will run it very well... although yours should be fine for a while. :)

The developers said that "a 3.2 GHz P4 with 6800 Ultra would be on the low end side"

But really, don't worry about it, your machine is gonna be great with everything that comes out today, and that is what matters, not something that will come out in 2006/2007 (we don't even know what game will be the first to use UE3). You'll be fine with that system for a long while, but eventually, you'll need to upgrade.

I serously hope you are joking. Im scared very scared. When the unreal 3 engine does come out we should be around or past the performance of an athlon 5000's (atleast I hope)

I read in an interview that they hope a video card with 1 gig of memory is the standard when Ureal 3 is released.

Thus, I doubt any system built now will be able to really even run it, unless it is severely overclocked.

Half the people that are going to want to play game on the unreal 3 engine have an integrated graphics card. Very few people have an AGP graphics card at my school. Out of everyone that had a computer I think there way 10 people out of 100. I dont think the integrated graphics cards will be able to run that engine even if they do have 1 gig of memory.

Yeah in a couple years when Longhorn and DX 10 are coming out we'll all be getting ready to buy new computers with a 64-bit cpu, 512mb or 1gb gfx card, 2gb of ram and 1 terrabyte hdd. And this time around I'll actually know what I'm doing and won't waste my money on a piece of crap! :bounce:

1terrabyte hard drives is alot. But I dont think we will ever need that much for home use. I think some of the gaming companies are getting out of hand with how large their game installs are. Just becasue there are 250gb hard drives out doesnt mean everyone has one. I would much rather save my money and buy a 80 gb then a 250gb. As soon as I see games start having more then 10gb installs im putting my foot down. Anyone played krieger or whatever its called its only 96k and its a playable game and its sposed to have good graphics.

Yeah I know it's a huge size but I'm just saying by then a lot of companies will be producing them. I've had this 30gb for a year and a half and for the past half year I've only had 5gb free space and I've been struggling to maintain that because if it gets too low on space it starts making my computer slower. If I had to pick between a 250gb hdd or 10,000 rpm 80gb and they were the same price I'd choose the 80gb.

But I dont think we will ever need that much for home use.

why are you guys looking so far ahed

First common-sense post in this thread.

A game based on the U3 engine is easily 3 years out, if not more. Don't worry about it until much later.

dont base what you buy for computer parts now on games that wont be out for 3 years. I mean common.

ok i guess ill be able to upgrade again in 3 years... by then all the "dream system" parts will probably be priced the same they are now so i guess ill be able to upgrade then with the latest technology.

Thank God I don't give a sh|t about the Unreal franchise. The only game I will upgrade for is HL3 baby and even then I'll see if I can scrape together the money :)

A lot of other games would use the Unreal 3 engine. Game engines aren't meant for just one game, the Source engine is going to be popular with a lot of other games.
