Unreal Tournament 2004 is going to have real-time shadow system, Where is HL2?

Interesting news. The new patch for FarCry supports SM3.0 for the new Nvidia cards. Just shows that recent engines are serious about maintaining their cutting edge. If these games can make what seems to be revolutionary changes after the fact, so can HL2.

This next year may be the apogee of gaming.

I Always turn off or turn down Shadows as I feel they are about as usful as Lens Flare.Except in games like Splinter Cell and Silent Hill(Games with tense moments or when you only see the shadow of a large monstrocity) its next to usless.Im not sure if this is something to be outraged about as its kinda pointless.

People,

HL2 is da best game only for Story, AI, Physics technology. So if UT04 got better shadow or its going to have better shadow then its not a big surprise to me.

lol turning off shadows in Silent Hill would be a funny sight :)

IN ADDITION, THE THREADS ABOUT CS:S HDR, YES THAT IS HDR IN THE BUILDING SCENE, NO IT IS NOT DUST (NEED A RENDERFARM TO SIMULATE TO THE DEGREE SHOWN) NOR VOLUMETRIC, IT IS SIMPLY HDRI WITH A NIFTY LIGHT BLOOM, EXSPOSURE/LIGHT BLUR EFFECT. SO CALM DOWN.

You're aware that when "dust" was mentioned, it was in reference to de_dust. As those beams of light coming in through the roofing are in the tunnels on de_dust
