Hey there (first post in General Games!)
I'm sure many of you, if not all, have seen the pictures of the Unreal3 engine, and others have probably seen the demo videos. That being said, I also know many of you are against downloading stuff for free.
So, here's a question:
If the latest Unreal3 engine build was stolen and put up on to the internet right now, would you download it?
I mean, obviously, it probably wouldn't run very well. But would you get it, just to see how much better of a system will be required for the first game made on it?
Or maybe just to know that you've seen it, first hand?
I'm going to make this a poll, so you can vote "yes" but still say "no" because you don't want people to know, as some of you will, with no doubt, do.
What do you think?
I, for one, can say that I would honestly get it.

Not interested. I don't need to download engine leaks to make myself seem leet.

 :upstare:

i definately would..i mean last year i played the hl2 alpha on my comp and it ran the same as the real thing does now...so im guessing it would be a good indicator of what kinda system could handle it

When it was demo'ed, it was running on 2x 6800Ultras. And it lagged.

I don't think we'll be playing it for a while :)

:dozey: I would want to... but since it's a leak there's no confirmation whether or not it'd make my x800 Pro blow up or not.

Heh, no. I think my current comp would die trying to run it.

no, I wouldn't. I'd rather my processor didn't melt.

But I would look at the screenshots :D

i don't know...i might do but after getting the half-life 2 leak, thats totally changed the way i think about leaks. spoilt a lot of the game for me location wise

What's the point? I have no use for an engine.
Mainly just to look at the graphics and everything. The only map I enjoyed playing over and over again on the stolen build of Half-Life 2 was e3_techdemo_5 (that was the e3 one with the pool in the middle, the physgun demonstating ragdoll, etc.) because that map basically just showed off the engine. It had nothing to do with the game Half-Life 2, but was just a showcase of the physics and everything.

Nope. I never downloaded the leaked HL2 build or felt the need to so an Unreal3 engine would be no different.

Its like stealing a car with no engine, it may be nice to look at but it does'nt work.

I thinkg you have to have a 6800 ultra to run the unreal 3 engine. They demo's they have showed all had 6800 ultras. They did say a 6800 would be the low end or minimum. But i still dont think I would download it.

As I said earlier, they demos it on *TWO* 6800Ultras in SLi and it lagged at several points.

blackeye, i believe those demos had Dual 6800's not one.
An unoptimized, graphical engine.
1.)would require more than Dual 6800's because of unoptimization thus lagging like shit.
2.)Rease #1

Oh yeah,

but if an official game is using the UE3.O out in the market by the time the engine warezed then Nah I won't .

I wouldn't download it because I HATE WAREZ!

Sorry to be really picky (I mean, really sorry and really, really picky) but it's "Unreal Engine 3" not "Unreal 3 Engine", simply because there is no 3rd Unreal title in development (I mean, the one guy who actually liked Unreal 2 :The Awakening said he didn't want a sequel because he'd found this brilliant new game that involved smashing his skull open with a pick-axe).

And no, I wouldn't download a leak of the engine, even if it had a game of some kind attached to it. It's just not something I do :)

are you guys sure it ran on an SLI setup because lots the websites say it ran on a single 6800 card.

Howevor During fragapalooza which is actually in my city (edmonton) I know they ran the unreal 3 engine on an SLI setup because I was there. Howevor the first demonstration they had I am pretty sure it was run on a single 6800 ultra card. This was months ago, I think it was during e3 or maybee when the 6800 ultras were first released they were showcasing what they could do with future engines.

It says here that it was a single card the ran the demo.

Just look it up on google you will find many websites that state it was a single card.

why, you have one ?

if i started to download any type of playable unreal 3, my computer would scream and turn off.

No, its illegel, and No it would run like totall crap. Also, No, why would I want a leaked engine?

Whats the point in having a leaked engine. I would NOT download it. Thankyou and Goodnight.

Ive played the Quake alpha, the Doom 3 alpha, HL2 alpha..

Curiosity easily gets the better of me. Of course I'd download it.

While I may have downloaded the HL2 leak thats the only one I ever have, and thats because I anticipated it so much, I don't think I would ever do it again with any other game because I will never be so full of anticipation. :rolling:

No, but if I had links, I'd get it faster than a hobo on a steak. I'd get like 1 FPS, but still, those graphics....

Don't like spoilers so I'd stay away from it just like I did with the Half Life 2 leak.

I can't help but think that people who downloaded the leak and then are disappointed by the things Valve left out sort of shot themselves in the foot a bit. Only, using a magic bullet that they shot early and seemed like it was going to hit a target and then took another year of travel and then twisted around and went straight for their foot and they tried to run and it was a close one but then POW!

well, i did it for HL2 and Doom 3 and i was going to for STALKER, so why stop now just cause it's Unreal3 - not like there's anything to ruin, but there is oh so much to gain, like seeing all the eye candy....mmmm.... eye candy...../goes into convulsions

Its just an engine though what would you do if you downloaded the engine. I dont think you have all the resources to create your own game.

Howevor if it was a nextgen game based on the unreal 3 engine then it would be another story.

I still wouldnt download it though I hate cheating the game industry. It makes me cry when I go to bed at night when I think about all the people that download games.

I think Ubisoft should make a third sequel to Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time that takes place two years after Warrior Within.
It should utilize the Unreal 3.0 Engine and should be really violent, involve Sandwraith in the storyline, have even more moves, have a single-player campaign that consists of kick-ass fights that won't get repetitive, kick-ass puzzles that require you to have an I.Q. of at least 105, platforming levels that will require you to have abover decent reflexes and should be as immersive and long as WarCraft III's single-player campaign.
That would so kick-ass. And it would be on the Unreal Engine 3.0.

Holy fricken crap, that's awesome! I had satanic posts!

I wouldnt, not because i think its morally wrong, just because i dont care enough to download 2gb (or however big it will be) of data

i think he was assuming, if it was stolen it would come with some tech demos like the one we've seen, where you can fly around . . .
