Unusually high cpu usage..*scary music*

Hey, well heres the prob:

Well, all of the sudden my cpu usage os usually stuck at 80-95%..
I installed speedfan to check it out, and it says it there.
Now, im not running ANYTHING, just winamp and thats it, yet still, cpu usage up there. And even without winamp, cpu usage still goes damn high...heres a screenie for ya:

any ideas? I mean im running a p4 2.4B..i doubt winamp brings the cpu usage that high :-P, and havent installed anything suspicous lately..

Do alt ctl del and look at all the processes running.

errrr, hes clearly not using 2K/XP igneri, looks like 95/98

(might of misunderstood you, but you were thinking of CTRL ALT DEL and then looking at the CPU usage for each program right?)

He could be using XP/2k but just using a 98 theme.

Its a possibility that there is a virus or probably a spy-ad ware which can be using ur CPU to do whatever it is doing. If thats the case use Norton or Kasperky as an anti-virus and AdAware or Spybot to remove tracking programs

Im gonna run AVG and adaware and see whats up and see if any probs get fixed , thanks guys !

Edit: To inquire as to why i no longer use winxp, it just gradually became slower the more i used it , constantly gave me fatal blue screen errors, proved to me its not half worth its wopping 1.5gb, im fine with my 400mb win98se .

on my older rig my computer kept crashing with windows XP, and it would take days to get it working again.
If i turned it off after i got it working it wouldnt come back up for a long time.

turns out that my IDE cable to the HDD was wierd or the wrong type or something, so 2 bucks and a trip to a computer store and it worked fine.

Random crashes especially in games and slow down seem to happen more in XP than they did in 98, i totally agree.

Hehe, yah i got my HDD IDE cable the type which for every normal connector theres a ground connector wire as well..All of hell would break loose if i didnt use this wire, according to my mobo manual..
And also, ran adaware and avg6.0 with latest drivers, seems my cpu latency is normal again!

and also, wianmp3 isnt that much of an overkill..i know it uses plenty of resources, but my cou usage usually bobs around 15% with winamp3 running, heres a screen to show im back to normal :

As to windows: Dude, winXP i think ive heard has better memory management, but i dont find it worth it, it uses more of it as well :/. I can play games alot better on win98, i mean, also has a lot of exploits..its not half as stable as they say, it just doesnt report errors - yet when it does it tells you your computer has been shut down to prevent further damage and thats it...In my opinion, win98 still rules, maybe it has more blue screens, but as reported, most are caused by third-party programs , not windows itself..I gave up on winxp after 6 different formats/installs, im starting to think a p4 EE 3.2 with 1024mb DDR500 ram, a seagate rapto 15,000 rpm serial ata drive with a ati radeon 9800xt couldnt run winxp good...i just give up on it, wait till longhorn, hope MS just improves the crap they made, which they named winxp...those are my views, my $0.02..
