WoW is, like all Blizzard games, real artistic and refined with great story telling elements. But it is also on an aging graphics engine, but they've still made a beautiful world with it and it is set in the legendary Warcraft universe. Breaks away from the traditional experience driven gameplay for a more open and personal Quest centered one.

Lineage 2. Beautiful engine and has its own distinct artistic style. Looks real pretty and has a wide variety of game mechanics such as ridable/tameable dragon mounts, but is still centered on PvP combat.

Everquest 2. Made on an engine comprable to Lineage 2's and superior to WoW's. But I think it still looks ugly and isn't nearly as well well utilized when compared to the other 2 and it also seems like the one most likely to bore people.

City of heroes. Breaks away from the fantasy dominated genre and goes for its own Comic book universe, also made by a new untried game developer. No PvP and early testers find it kind of clunky and boring at some parts. But still has great potential.

WoW = too cartoony for me, regardless of gameplay

Lineage2 = sucks majorly, Im not even going to go into how much I was looking forward to it and how much I loathe it after being in the open beta.... ick stay away from this one , if your a serious mmorpger

Everquest 2 = the best looking option after Lineage2 flopped.

Tabula Rasa (translates into "Clean Slate")= the next game from MMorpg/Ultima god Richard Garriott (aka Lord British) sci-fi fantasy not set in medieval times.. thats about all we know about it.. its being shown for the first time at this E3, so heres hoping Garriott will blow us away again.
 
City of heroes seem to be the most interesting of those.
 
I'm still obsessed with SWG after nearly a year... However, I still haven't been able to test any of those, but I have heard City of Heros is not bad...

Thats all Im looking forward too. Lineage 2 is a poor attempt at the FF universe.
 
I thought FFXI was already out... no wait it is already out on both the PC and PS2. From my previous post you can probably tell I'm a WoW man myself.
 
Well, Mr.R has participated in the Lineage beta and says it sucks. That firsthand experience. I guess I'll stay away from Lineage then. FFXI does look like it is a lot of fun, and the reviews of it are good too. However, I used to play Everquest and had a blast with that. I'm currently leaning toward EQ2 the most and WoW comes in at a very very close second. City of Heroes looks interesting......

If Richard Garriot comes out with something amazingly mind blasting, then I will look into that as well.....

im in the same boat i really wanna play one these online games :) im thinking i might please eve online i like the idear of somthing abit more futureistic.. will be fun owning some big sod off space shit :)

Lineage 2 is pretty crap but it's free for now so you might as well give it a go.

Personally I would go for WoW, or just wait for something better to come along.

I have to say that EVE online is probably the biggest online world ever. It's just HUGE!!! Thus, most players tend to get lost or miss the system... 10 000 planets....

It even has an Internet of its own (of internal websites yes) and an complex economical system...I know, it's realistic, but theres' a limit for these things.

Why in hells name hasnt someone taken that engine and made a present day MMORPG or purhaps for WW2 (I know its overused).

tbh... they all look pritty crap. The only good one to me is Final Fantasy 11 and thats not on your list... so :p

to guy who said EQ2's gfx were shitty, you obviously havnt seen the videos... its gorgeous... I dont know if you have any idea how much detail is in the game now have you even seen any screenshots??? jesus the game owns any rpg gfx to date...

yes, EQ2 has some great gfx, especially for an MMORPG (which is plagued by shite/cartoon gfx)

however you selected some REALLY crappy shots of it :p

Im in the open Beta of LineageII, its horrible Im not even gonna go into why. :(
here you can go through this thread, as to why I didnt enjoy Lineage 2, its not that bad, just not my cup of tea. Im OblivionSlice, I posted once detailing how I felt about Lineage2 until I got bored of typing about it.

Can't say I've ever been this tempted to think about buying one of these thangs...
 
I havent played a decent one since UO... and even UO blows now (it was good back in the day, before they nerfed the experience so more people would join)

another quick note on EQ2, you *Have* to see their cloth system in motion... very impressive, and it is used extensively (capes, coats, shrouds, etc etc, even armor and stuff.. its just very impressive when it wraps around the character's legs/body/head etc.)

EQ2 may have some nice tech but it's style is bollocks.

anyway I havnt gotten into any mmorpg's for two reasons, if the combat isint fun whats the point??? im leveling to own monsters better but if the process isnt satisfying in the first place fug it... I really dont give to shits about some "economy" and a crafting system or owning property I just want fun.... and no mmorpg has really delivered that to me so far...at all just a pretty interactive chatroom... sad really because I think it is possible and guildwars tempts me but so did SWG and I hate SWG... its just not my thing AT ALL neither is Lineage II sadly or any other mmo

planetside is mmo but rpg?? not really imo.. and Im not gonna go into detail why I dislike that game...
 
Another cool upcoming mmo game is Pirates of the Burning Sea (a Carribbean ship game set in the 1700's I believe). They're still working on it and are thinking to have beta by fall (I think anyway, it's still way up in the air). It has obvious limitations at first (like there won't be any avatars, but instead will just be "ghost boats"), but these are understandable considering it's created by a group of devs who are publishing via Steam, thus cutting out producer costs. Also, those issues will be resolved as time goes on. It has a great community, and I can't wait for it to be released!

I should be playing Ragnarok by the end of this week. I'm getting a copy from a friend. Hopefully it will be fun. Can anyone here tell me how Ragnarok is in terms of gameplay?
 
I would also choose WoW becausei just like all the blizzard games and the game sounds intersting etc.
