Everytime a TF2 update gets released and I attempt to download it, it seems like every time I look at my modem lights, they are not flashing. The update stalls at zero kilobytes per second pretty much all of the time. Only for brief moments in time will it actually download quickly - in short bursts, then back to nothing at all.

I really need a solution to this... When I downloaded TF2 and another game just a few months ago, they downloaded quickly and with no problems. But for the last 3 months, any update is just a sheer nightmare to install.

I started this Heavy update 90 minutes ago, and I'm only at 15% despite the fact I have a broadband connection.

Exit steam, navigate to your steam installation folder and delete your clientreigstry.blob file - then restart steam, and see if it downloads faster.

Well I only just got round to trying out this advice as a TF2 update was released and I couldn't tolerate the slow spells.

After deleting the blob file and restarting Steam it then started "updating Steam".

Except it stopped at 50% and in keeping with the ****ed up nature of Steam on this computer, went to 30%... How can it go from 50% to 30%?

It's now been stuck at 30% for 15 minutes.

Thanks for trying to help, but it just made it worse. :hmph:
