We are already aware of this situation and will be dealing with the
student when he returns to school [he is on exam leave] (he has no access
to his account - the pages remain there as evidence for the time being).

Hope this helps

I came in here ready to attack you.

However, I feel that I must say this:

LOL pwnt. I didnt fall for it but I think anyone who did will find this good news.

I'd give anything to see the look on this kids face when they tell him they know what he's been doing.

****ing owned indeed. :E

i hope that this will teach the rest of those evil doers that you cant mess with HL2.NET! :superman smiley:

you generally can't mess with anyone with an IQ higher than your own... and he got himself into a whole crowd of 'em... pazerfowned!

ah... nailed.. I wonder if the Hong Kong cybercrime police unit should be notified also?
Or are we still sticking with just valve and his school?

Any HL2.netters live in Hong Kong?

Edit: HL2.netters sounds crappy.

Sorry, I'm awfully confused - what's happened?

There was an asshat who decided to come to these forums and spam a scam to steal people's steam IDs. He just got pwned.

some noob posted a link on the forums here where you put in your steam userid and password and the info gets sent to him where he just changes the password and takes the account. only one person fell for it that im aware of and from here on he got pwned

I made ikerous spam-bomb his site with fake usernames for nothing :(.

Oh well, at least I have the javascript for future reference.

I have difficulty believing that someone would be so stupid as to run a phishing scam off of his school's webspace. I'm thinking that the guy just hacked some student's account.

Oh I notified the police >=)

Ben ur first post in the original thread was sorta harsh but man, u have really made up for it :)
seriously, i hope this guy is in deep shit...even if it is over just a game.

script kiddies think they can get away with stuff and not have to deal with any consequences... well this instance, Ben just owned the hell outta him.

I'm still kinda bummed that he was able to get "Fonaki's" (I think) account. I hope he is able to get it back, becuase that really bummed me when I read it.

FYI, it's not the first time it's happened. Hell, not even a few months ago, we had a guy come in and make 12 threads saying that if you sent your info into his page, you'd get the DoD:S beta. We also had a guy who made multiple accounts and did it with each one. It happens all the time here.

The thing that made this guy so special, and his thread so LONG, is that he actually had the nerve to reply and say "hey guess what ****wad, i've got your account, am having a hell of a time with it, and there's nothing you can do about it".

That's what set everybody off :)

wow - rookie move on his part. A little more tact, and he might have been mildly successful if it weren't for you meddling moderators!

He just better hope VALVe doesn't do anything to him, I'm sure their legal department would have a field day with his ass.

Have to agree with theSteven on this one, he got totally posessioned.

How do we know he didn't simply create a new email account and faked that message?

Hmm he mentioned proxies and "hacking into the account", might be true. So there could be a innocent guy being caught out, how can you tell?

The chances of him being a proper hacker are slim. Most people who claim they are talk bollocks.

pretty easy concept though, so he did probably take the accounts. Hes probably assasinated already or something

He's no hacker. I put a simple code with one of my posts. Then later i said "Not even the greatest of hackers could break it". No doubt what so ever, he did try to break it. The topic in hand was about him. And if i was him, i would of posted the answer to the code and then say "ha, told you i was a hacker". But no, nothing.

Nope:
Actually, the person who's webspace which I hacked is still at school.
Which does not align with:
