This will be my first time upgrading my computer, so i'm not quite sure what to do.

My computer specs:

Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition
OS Service Pack Service Pack 2
CPU Type Intel Pentium 4, 2947 MHz
Motherboard Name Gigabyte GA-8I915P Dual Graphic (3 PCI, 1 PCI-E x1, 2 PCI-E x16, 2 DDR DIMM, 2 DDR2 DIMM, Audio, Gigabit LAN, IEEE-1394)
Motherboard Chipset Intel Grantsdale i915P
System Memory 512 MB
Video Adapter SAPPHIRE RADEON X300SE - Secondary (128 MB)

I mainly just use this comp for browsing/gaming, so another 512-1gig of ram should be enough i think.
What i wanted to ask is what type of ram will be compatible with my system and how i would go about installing the ram when it arrives. Thanks.

Depends on what sort of ram you have right now (ddr1 or ddr2), because it seems your motherboard supports both, but I seriously doubt that you can have DDR1 and DDR2 at the same time.

Yeah, we need to know the exact RAM model you have (Having same RAM model reduces problems)

its always recommended to go for the same kinda ram u r using right now (preferably same manufacturer)

pop the side off your pc's case, look at the sticker on the RAM and write down what speed and shit it is, PC3200 333mhz and what not
