Ural Spetsnaz hostage situation demo. (badass)

What the **** at that guy hitting the vehicle and it blowing up.

I don't even see him after that. What the **** was that!?

its hard to see but he gets up in the smoke. hes the one far right of the screen when the others get into view.

What the **** was that shit? It was like a god damn bangalore. I'LL RUN UP AND SMACK THE TRUCK, BLOW IT UP... KILL ANYONE INSIDE MAYBE AND HOPE I SURVIVE MYSELF.

Hostage situation averted!

Surely this isn't a hostage situation demo?

That's like tossing a grenade into a room full of hostages, and then going in there to pull everybody out.

How in the **** is that their game plan for hostage rescue?

As you may know, there were several instances where more than hundreds of hostages were held by Chechen rebels. Guess what happened to the hostages.

Thats not badass, thats retarded. What idiot thought that would be a good way to save people?

I'd hate to play a game of paintball or airsoft with them. They'd probably crank the mother ****ing power as high as they'd go.

Apparently, the Russian notion of rescue includes using high-explosives to ensure the rescued get to Paradise.

someone PLEASE make a gif out of the part were he hits the van and the shit blows up!

EDIT: also, on the airplane video. Why didnt they set up snipers to unload on them in the cockpit? Problem Solved lol

Good thing in France we have these guys

That's some crazy shit. And I thought I was bad at throwing grenades in games like ArmA etc.

If somebody could photoshop him running the Olympic torch up there, and make it look good... that would be bad ass.

Concussion charge - the pressure blows out the windows and door of the vehicle and stuns everyone inside. That means easy entry for the assault team and any hostage takers are stunned when they enter. Think of it like a breaching charge and flashbang all roled into one.

To be honest, it looks like a fairly sound plan to me - concerntrate the hostage takers attention foreward with the APC and suppressive fire, have a fellow hit them with that charge then nab everyone in the bus. Also note that they were willing to use the breaching device during a demonstration with people inside of the bus - who appeared to to have not been killed by it - so they're probably fairly confident that its not lethal in most cases*

As for Moscow, well, Moscow was a crapshoot. The vast majority of the time hostage rescue operations don't go very well. Moscow was actually fairly sucessful - most of the hostages got out, all of the Chechens got dead and the Russians didn't suffer that many casualties. It wasn't the Iranian Embassy siege - the theatre was big, there were hundreds of hostages and numerous terroists.

To be honest, the assualt plan was very similar to the Iranian embassy - pump in gas (though the Russians used some form of knock-out gas which had some rather unfortuneate side effects, rather than the CS gas used by the British), then storm in. The numbers dead were tragic, but overall the operation went pretty well. Indeed, the sucess at the Iranian Embassy in 1980 was very surprising, even to the SAS - they expected somewhere around 60% hostage casualty rates and significant losses for themselves.

*Virtually all "non-leathal" or "less leathal" methods, such as beanbag rounds, flash bangs, tasers, etc don't kill people the vast majority of the time, but it happens every now and again.

tl;dr

Counter terroism is a nasty business and its not unusual for hostages to get dead.

That force looked like it was enough to bend steel or aluminum. I mean shit, look how it busted out the windows and doors and hatches.

It obviously wasn't enough to kill anybody since we saw them pull those guys out... but god damn.

Terrorism is indeed nasty business... and hostages do indeed die sometimes beyond control of officers or the military. But when you start being so aggressive to the point of muddying the whole operation, what does it become? A hostage rescue... or merely a terrorist take down with anticipated collateral?

Holy shit. I don't understand how that boomstick is supposed to work. If it uses pressure and is applied from the outside, the pressure will blow the windows and doors into the bus, no? And that can harm the people inside. Also is this supposed to be selective damage, nonharmful to humans or what? If it ****s up the bus like that, surely it can do damage to the people inside?

Spetsnaz don't really care about capturing/rescuing people. Seriously, I saw a video of a Spetsnaz raid on a mafia hideout with 2 hostages, and they just threw a couple of grenades in, and shot the ones that tried to come out with their hands up.

Yeah, a flashbang can kill you if you're in last stand.

Do you have a link to that video (PM if necessary)? Cause that sounds almost like an urban legend, but you're saying there's a video.

That looked like a really sloppy job by the frogs tbh.

That Russian job looked completely counter-productive.

Russia is a spent power not worthy of the recognition tbh but France can do better.

Alright, but I might have to search for it a bit; it was in a Korean site, and a long long time ago.

Here are some pics that are similiar, still trying to find that vid.

Asking myself the same question, f*cking insane, I thought he might of flown away

Wait, after watching the video a couple more times, it doesnt even look like that stick thing was what blew up. It looks like the explosion came from the back of the bus and not where the stick was, and it seems to come from inside.

EDIT: Oh, if you look at the stick while the guy is running up with it, it looks kind of like a lacrosse stick. He must be flinging a grenade inside or something.

Also, this comment made me laugh
wish more countries did it like this.. Teaches criminal not to even bother with hostages
