sorry for the extream title but i needed to get someones attention.

As you have probably heard already and know about i assume there is already a lengthy topic on my problem:

Specs:
x800 PRO
3200+ AMD ATHLON
1GIG RAM

ok i think the problem relates to the x800 pro and direct x bbut i'me not sure. when play Counter-Strike:Source my max fps varies between 30-70 not good for a x800PRO, this however is running the following settings

1280x1024
AA6x
AF16x
textures etc on highest.

ok i thought to myself, mabye i'me been greedy and over powering my card, so i changed the settings.

still no good, ok mabye a 5-10fps diff.

After being p***ed off for many hours i thought i would turn everything down to my lowest, resolution everything, however stull running direct x 9

nope no difference (ok mabye a 20-30 fps increase) with the graphics this poor the x800PRO should be at least running at 300 or 200fps. this is when i got a little panicky. is there somthing wrong with my card or is CS:S and the x800 PRO disagree with each other. all my other games seem to run fine, although i havent run a fps check, but i'me assuming.

If there is any news on this topic please give me the link if not please continue to post this problem. i am a desprate guy whos x800PRO might not work :/

if any of the following made sense please reply. and tell me some more information. Thanks, i appricate all help :)

CS :S is very demanding. Doesnt look like there is a problem, 6xAA and 16xAF are incredibly high....and you had playable framerates even then.

Yes but please, note that I ran all settings in low and still experienced problems.

PS i live in porstmouth.

please can i have someone who knows allot about cards and this game, cheers.

still appricate respone tho

30 to 70 is about right with those settings. I can't get 6AA and 16 AF with 1280 resolution to work with my X800 Pro. I get texture corruption.

The source engine when used for a game like CS:S is going to be CPU bound. This is because the graphics card is spending most of its time doing nothing. As you load up your graphical settings with things like higher resolutions and AA and AF, your video card is just "flexing its muscles a bit" because you give your graphics card more things to do (like AA) but is still CPU bound. When HL2 arrives the situation will likely be different because HL2 will use more shaders and will be more performance intensive for your graphics card.

To recap, don't worry you are fine. You will not get higher framerates with CS:S unless you get a faster CPU. That isn't really worth it, is it? ;) Your video card is not the problem.

Cheers great response, 3200+ i just purchesed along with my x800pro, luckly i got a reasonably fast processor because i didn not know that the x800PRO CPU bound at the time, although the last couple of weeks i found that out. Cheers for the info that CS:S works mainly from the CPU. makes sense. cheers 30-70 is still playabale, however from what i heard there are many problems with x800PRO and CS:S users. with a bit of luck there will be a nice fix.

Thansk allot really helped best get back to my :sniper: :afro:

cheers again. keep posting up ;)

however why wen i try turning down graphics + resolution do i get simialr fps. This still needs to be discussed

Do you have Vsync on? Turn it off ingame and in the display properties from your desktop (right-click and go to properties).

I have a 6800GT and I run at 1024x768 resolution with 4xAA and 8xAF. I get similar (a little higher) framerate than you quote for the 1280X resolution.

OMG! you don't get 300FPS!!!! Kill yourself! That's the only way out!

What kind of a reply is that ??

On-topic: The fps sounds just about right. I run the game at the same settings and get a little higher fps than you. As already mentioned, it's a demanding game.

humm then it sounds about right.

unfortantly i'me not a noob and i have changed properties in both in-game and via properties, no luck

1280x1024
6xAA
16xAF
Everything else maxed no v-sync

= 40-70 fps

considering this is maxed out its probably right. from what i've heard tho x800 XT PE gets around 120-160 all maxed (better res than me with other settings such as AA and AF etc same.)

i wouldent say the X800 XT is twice as good as the X800 PRO by no means - meaning i should be recieveing a steady 100fps... right?

*also my fps freaks at Terror spawn on azzy, somthing to do with grass. someone told me a console command to calm fps when looking at grass. besides the point, but if anyone knows the command please post it.

*i heard there is some direct X problem with some cards, they use direct x wrongly. considering RADEON was designed for source engine you would expect they would of made the x800 PRO correctly, however with a bit of luck they havent and there will be a fix along the way.

Moving away from subject New maps and models are expected in december. check www.halflife.net hompage.

Keep posting any news on direct x problems. i am conserned. With a bit of luck blahblahblah was correct. Even still I have my worries. by sounds of it 6800GT copes with Source engine better than X800 PRO, all i can say is "bloody typical!" :(

Another rumour i heard was that Valves steam is slowing Source engine down, mabye this is somthing to do with it. all i can say is put my hands together and pray its somthing fixable....

ah well fps is still playable, could be worse. :) might as well jump up and down in joy.... :bounce:

keep the posting comming, I need your support along with many other players.

Pleace Out ! :imu:

I'll be back! :borg:

The X800 follows DX 9 to the letter in terms of support. Nvidia still is a bit out there, but more or less follows DX 9 fairly closely as well. So much so, that developers don't often have to optimize a gain for ATI hardware since ATI hardware works so well with generic DX9 standards. The same can't be said for Nvidia.

Remember, most benchmarks are not based off of actual games, but on a server by themselves. Remember that. Your benchmarks are fine.

If you are paranoid, run Aquamark 3, 3D Mark 03, and 3D Mark 05 and post back with your scores. That will tell me if your card is working properly. Remember to disable AA and AF for those benchmarks (through your ATI control panel).

I'me not 'asking' for a code, but who has 'purchesed' Aqua Mark5....

e-mail me please.....

[email protected] if you wish to speak to me for any 'reason' privatly
