another victory for justice for the sick of the world!

/sarcasim

"Federal authorities may prosecute sick people whose doctors prescribe marijuana to ease pain, the Supreme Court ruled Monday, concluding that state laws don't protect users from a federal ban on the drug. The decision is a stinging defeat for marijuana advocates who had successfully pushed 10 states to allow the drug's use to treat various illnesses."

this was spearheaded by John Ashcroft ...the same ashcroft who lied about WMD and once said:

"we have no king but jesus"

kill the messanger who brings bad news :sniper:

Well, I hope the voters got what they wanted. Luckily another chance for them to get their heads out of their asses is coming in 06.

Legalize *cough* *cough* it!!!!!

Why stop people from easing their pain?
Cannabis is far less harmful than most presciption pain killers.

I'm not exactly convinced that this will be the end of medical marijuana in the US or anything. These sorts of things have a way of coming around, despite such setbacks.

Recreational drugs should not be used for medicinal purposes anyways.

Agreed whole-heartedly :)

Using a recreational drug to treat illnesses, when there are specific drugs out there that are designed to treat illnesses, is stupid.

Why not? If it works better than any other drug why not use it. Why should we ban, say diamorphine, one of the best pain killers available to doctors just because a bunch of junkies use it recreationally?

sorry but no medical drug has the same calmative qualities that marijuana does ...it helps people undergoing chemotherapy and prevents seizures in severe epilectics ...tradional drugs have far more long lasting detrimental effects such as liver toxicity, conflicts with other drugs and unknown reactions

Whatever, I just don't think enough research is going in to alternatives. All these pot heads, and people wanting to prove "the man" wrong are doing tons of research on this, biased research too.

I think they're making the distinction between a drug intended for recreational use and one for medical use. The idea is that while medical marijuana works, its being championed simply as a spearhead for the total legalization of marijuana. The argument is that a far more effective and consistent drug could be given to patients in a more distilled form. (Smoking a plant is about as rough and ready as a drug gets.)

not really ...when I worked at the school for mentally handicapped many of the adults in the adult program were heavily medicated (percocet, risperdal etc) ..and as a result had to be weened off the drug once a year ....which usually meant a stay at the provincial institution where they were strapped down for hours at a time during the worst of their withdrawal symptoms. They were a threat to anyone near them

People made bear, God made pot,
God is mighty, we are not

but anyway, pot has been around for as long as we can remeber, how do you think Native American used ot treat their headaches and what not

:upstare: do you even know why pot was outlawed in the first place? would you be surprised to learn that George Washington and thomas Jefferson grew hemp? it's all a matter of perspective

I don't really actually have an opinion on that argument (what am I? A pharmacist?), but I do think theres something to be said for consistency. With all the different strains of pot and methods of smoking it, and just natural differences between plants, administering it has to be more difficult than many other drugs. A reliable dosage must be hard to get.

medical grade marijuana is very controlled ...as it's grown by the government and is doled out exactly like any other drug

Why is that different than drugs such as vicodin which are also used by a large number of people (such as Rush Limbaugh) for recreational use.

Once again, CptStern manufactures a mountain from a molehill. Marijuana has been banned by the Federal Government for decades. What the Supreme Court did was rule that the states that allow medical marijuana (10 of them) can not supercede Federal law with regard to the ban. Most of the states which passed the medical marijuana laws only did so in the last few years. I believe the Supreme Court ruled properly, with regard to the states' attempt to supercede Federal law.

As I have stated before, even though I don't use it, I think marijuana should be legalized. The tax revenue alone would be worth it, not to mention the loss of a revenue source for those who won't find legitimate work.

Ya, we are spending money trying to stop something that we could just let happen and profit from.

Cigars do more harm then marijuana, and yet they are legal. Why, because the tabaco famrers and companies lobbied it. Simply put, you people suck ass.

Yes, I suck ass. Thank you for the insight, but shouldn't you be ****ing up your country more? Making Amsterdam more of a wasteland?

If you had a pill or a nazel spray derived from Cannabis that had all the medical advantages to it but none of the bad effects, namely the dizziness and the "getting high" factor, do you really think people would use it over other medical drugs?

Are you kidding me? The whole getting high part is what eases the pain; just like Vicodin cures the pain by getting you high. The real question is do you think that people who smoked pot to ease pain will stop simply because the Supreme court said they have to?

Many people will.

^rofl, what the supreme court ruled will maybe affect (effect?) 1% of the marijuana smokers in the country. If we didn't give a damn before, why would we know?
So you are saying people who do use this for a legitamate reason are all regular smokers?

alot of them are foxtrot... alot of them tried it at least once before they needed it as a medicinal reason. Hell most people have tried it at least once, and u could be surprised by how many people actually do smoke pot.
All the more reason to stop the medicinal use of marijauna. And no I would not be suprised how many people smoke pot, and your "most" is a lot like my "most" when refering to America being white.

So you are saying if someone is dying and are in constant pain they should be denied a drug that helps them with that pain and with the knowledge that they will be dead soon? HIV/AIDS is a classic example.

Foxtrot give it up,we outnumber you so take a hike jackson!! and YES you probably would be surprised at WHO smokes as well as how many have or still do..

what if it turned out that weed was the only thing that made your _____(fill in relative you care about) pain free? with out NASTY side effects? oh well **** them huh? its a drug...no you fool its a PLANT!
