US Citizens: Who is voting tomorrow??!!

That would be nice, but it's a little unrealistic. Only 40% of your country cared to vote in the last Presidential election. Your population will probably be more appathetic this time around.
And your logic seems a little flawed. Yes, everyone has been very apathetic, but I think that with these elections, the population that might not normally get out there and vote has seen a way to effect change in this once proud nation. All is not lost and hopefully people realize that what they do (and more importantly what they don't do) really matters and affects everyone in this country and indeed the rest of the world. We were once asleep, but the last few years have been a serious wake-up call. This election provides a faint glimmer of hope in an otherwise dreary and dismal political forecast. I just hope others feel the same way. We'll see tonight!!

Well, I hope your right. But, there was more then enough reasons to vote in the last election and the turn out was..well..less then stellar.

I stongly hope we see this rude awakening you speak of.

BTW: i don't see how it's illogical to expect less people to vote during midterm elections then for the President.

I hear they are having lots of issues with the voting machines. Have you guys had any issues with those? Did you have to revert to paper ballot?

I'm going in a little bit.

Issues with voting machines?

*votes Democrats*

Machine puts out: "Thanks for voting Republicans!"

I just got back from voting.

Be sure to watch The Daily Show & Colbert Report tonight!

Not old enough, both my parents did though.

voter turnout was 63%!

Three idiot independents split the governor vote, so now we have the same republican governor, who only got 40% of the vote.

If you're looking to change the course of the nation, and you voted for either a Republicrat or Demoblican, congratulations, you just completely wasted your ****ing vote.
Sucks to be ****ing seventeen.

Coincidentally, if you voted independent, you also wasted your ****ing vote. The wonders of a two party system.

Rawr, I don't like this and this!

Wait, I don't know wtf is going on.

I stand corrected:D
Good! Thank the maker!

And it is only illogical in this case since everyone and their mother has been upset with this administration and has been told recently that by changing the guys in Congress, we can change the direction of this horrible regime. Looks like its working!!

voter turnout was 63%!

Not very much, if you ask me.

*Tommorow*

BUSH DECLARES MARTIAL LAW! TAKES OVER CONGRESS WITH ARMY.

lol! dont you mean:

"In a shocking turn of events Vice president Dick Cheney shot George Bush today and declared himself the defacto ruler of the United States. Cheney declared himself Supreme Leader of New Amerika, quickly dissolved congress, put Haliburton in charge of the military, imposed martial law and rounded up the Intelligentsia to be summararily executed on the eve of Cheney's glorious ascendency to the throne of New Amerika"

hey, it could happen

Coincidentally, if you voted independent, you also wasted your ****ing vote. The wonders of a two party system.

Not if you get enough people to vote third party. You think either of the two parties are going to fix anything? If you do, congratulations, you've bought the propaganda and are a government pawn.

i concur

Only two major parties work, because otherwise no candidate can get a sizeable majority, meaning the voters will always feel cheated.

Third parties, especially hopless ones, are a bane in elections, because their votes, in spite of what you might think, are damned worthless, they only serve to take votes away from the candidates who deserve them. You're either an idiot or insane if you think a third party like green, or liberatarian or independent is going to win an election unless there is a huge turn of events and one party morphs into another.

For instance, these are the results for Texas Governor

Perry (Republican): 39.5%
Bell (Democrat): 28.0%
Strayhorn (Independent): 15.0%
Friedman (Independent): 10.0%
whoever the liberatarian was: <5%

Now that is really terrifying. Should a leader really be elected by less than 40% of the population? Is that really democracy? Everyone who voted for Friedman would have voted for Bell, and most of those who voted for strayhorn. Bell would have won, and the governorship would have changed. As it stands, Perry, the incubent lost 40% to 60% against the other candidates. That is not democracy, that is a sham.

The truth is, I don't really care who else gets into office, its just that Rick Perry is a terrible governor, and because of the varied parties, we are stuck with a few more years of his incompetent rule. We will not see any real change.

In spite of what you think, the two parties are very different on their ideologies. They might have the same methods, they might have the same backers, but all in all the parties are formed around the ideologies, not the other way around. Every historic election in america has been based on the ideal of Jeffersonianism vs. Hamiltonianism, and this battle has most often been solidified in two permanent political parties. One compliments the other, one dissents to the other, and that party system is essential to our republic. Without it, our elections would all be uncertainties, they would all be shams.

We've been under two party rule for eons. Look at the state of the nation. It speaks for itself.

The democrats and republicans have morphed into one giant mega party, one that doesn't give a flying shit about any of us. So really a "third" part would be the much needed 2nd party.
If Democrats were in office back in 2001, we would still be in Iraq. It doesn't matter whether there is a D or an R next to their name, they're going to do the same things once they're in office.
There's a reason why most candidates didn't mention their political affiliation in their ads this year.

Proportional representation is a much better system IMO. 5% of the people vote Libertarian - Libertarians get 5% of the seats. Plus you dont get all the crap with tactical voting and suchlike - you just vote for who you want.

It has its disadvantages. Extreme parties find it easier to get in. Coalition governments are frequently ineffective. If everybody has to compromise, everything is watered-down. Everything becomes centre. Plus, it doesn't allow for any kind of constituent-MP link.

What about like france.
You vote for whoever you want, then you have a secound round where you choose from the two people who got the most votes to avoid the above situation. [not sulkies]

Hmm, they may be onto something there....
