yeah i think medians are ineffective unless we're talking very evenly distributed values, and very few of them as well.. like olympic points, which is like the only modern day use for them.
and you shouldnt even try to measure statistics like the drug busters did..

yeah man morphine is pretty awesome. when i've gone to sleep on it it feels like some futuristic cryostatic sleep. you just drift off into nothingness, and when you wake up it takes quite a while for that feeling to wear off.

I think you misunderstood what I was saying, Crazy. Your response was pretty ridiculously over the top.
 
Ideally, neither should warrant infractions. But piracy and copyright content is a good deal more relevant to a software company like Valve than, say, how many rips you've had off your bong in the last hour. Hell, Valve probably wants you stoned at home playing TF2 all day.

It's just not really appropriate considering who backs the site and the field they're in. Breaking copyright protection is a more sensitive subject matter considering that.
 
I suppose you're right. But when a mod gets involved in such blatant discussion, I can't help but feel that it's... pushing it a little.

I don't have any problem with it personally.

well to be fair it's not illegal everywhere ...like in portugal ..so would Sparta get banned for taking about something that isnt illegal in his neck of the woods? personally I think if we can openly talk about drinking (and many of you are under age drinkers) talking about drug use should fall under the same catagory

Oh yeah, and to add to what Absinthe said last page: Valve pay for our hosting. They own us. It would be extremely discourteous of us not to act as we do. Technically, Munro doesn't like us to discuss drugs and other illegalities, but I think that's something other moderators are less strict about, and until it becomes an official rule of the site (as is the piracy stuff), or Munners busts our asses, it's de facto allowed I guess.

And also, there's a thing called "overreaction". Nobody is really calling you the bad guy. Saying we don't have lives because we don't do drugs? Wat? Nobody is actually getting worked up about anything but you.

I dunno man. theres a lot of instability going on right now.. I've been dealing with a depression and pills and all that. My life has gotten better, so I stopped taking the pills to deal with my issues in a normal way. Still, some of the anxiety comes back and I'm not always ready to face it. But it's getting better. I'm under a ****load of financial stress as well. But I guess that's the times we live in today.

And no, it's not the drugs, Ive been totally clean the latest month, havent even drunk, because of my studies. The coke is a long story, I almost got killed by a guy because he'd been ratted out and thought it was me. When he found out that it wasn't me, he had alot of guilt so he's been sharing his stash. (all hypothetically speaking)

STILL, I dont see why you automatically have to be a hysterical wreck if you call someone out on their bullshit. I have no problem with Farrow or Vegeta, but if they're going to act like that, be wiseguys around stuff that's not their business, I say **** that.

I post on hl2.net for fun. No warrant for any kind of harsh reaction tbh.

I know I used to be a bitch in old drug threads but I don't have those kind of feelings about anything on hl2.net anymore, so everything I do is just pissing around.

Man, Harij, I can promise nobody is trying to get at you personally (not even me, just doing me job, etc). And I know Farrow has nothing against drugs, not on any general, ethical level.
 
The picture Veggie posted made me chuckle.

Anyway, the original point of my post that apparently caused all this was probably a bit obscure. Essentially I was asking because in terms of illegality, drugs are pretty much way up there on the list, but everyone was talking freely about how much they do them and how much they cost.

Solaris was banned for saying "I admit to piracy" if I recall. It just seemed a bit unbalanced. Of course I understand the context of this being a gaming site, but even so it struck me as odd.
(Also I'm aware that Solaris says lots of things.)

I thought I pretty clearly wasn't having a go at anyone. I don't have a problem with drugs. Like I said, my point wasn't about the drugs. It was about the moderating.
 
I don't see how discussing piracy of music and movies (IE not video games) would be disrespectful to Valve.

Sulks makes a very good point, the situation with Valve hosting us means, in my eyes, that people openly admitting to piracy (of games) and promoting it or whatever is not the done thing considering the organisation of the site.

Re these drugs threads I am fine with them :)

I know my stance on games piracy discussion here pisses people off, but whatever, I just don't think it is right for it to be discussed considering what Valve do for us.
