That's crazy shit. Star Wars program (NOT THE MOVIE ) looks like it could be put back to use and actually work now.

Anyone know the (current) range of that thing?

Numbers?

How does the Navy have money for weaponized lasers, but not color video cameras with microphones?

It doesn't have "destroy" the aircraft all it needs to do is disable it.

Cool, but I doubt that they have enough power to shoot down bigger stuff than that small UAV.

And you know, it took like 10 seconds to kill that model airplane. Somewhat not impressed. It would be even more hard if the object had a reflective surface and was rolling around to distribute the heat.

This is cooler:

Proof of concept. It works. It just has to be refined which will happen fast.

And that is pretty cool.

Well, yeah. I for one would like to see this developed further.

When the commies come, they're going to come en masse, and we need to shoot their planes, missiles, and artillery rounds as much as we can.

How much you going to pay us for this tech?

the laser is probably invisible, there was probably no sound, and if there was maybe people would know the frequency at which to harness such device...but I have no idea what I'm saying half the time anyway so move along show over...

I thought the idea was to eventually have a system that would heat up incoming missiles until they failed/exploded.

Is that still the aim or are they going to put them on fighters and have super cool awesome laser battles?

Man. Speaking of fighters having super cool awesome laser battles...

The reality of space warfare, when it comes to be, and lasers are a part of that, is depressing as shit!

They were showing these CG depictions of what future space battles might be, with these really boring looking cube or sphere ships flying around shifting direction in uncool ways, firing beams of light that instantly reached their target and destroyed them.

Basically it was all about who could do the most insane maneuvering and who reacted the quickest before the other person was incinerated by an invisible laser that instantly reached them.

Case in point... it raped my space combat fantasy world in the ass.

We'll just have one of our spies pirate it.

Too true. In my visions of the world of tommorow, lasers will not be true offensive weapons, but rather be used as point defense, and we'll all be shooting missiles at each other's spaceships a few hundred kilometers away.
