US to Apologize for Slavery

Please, tell me how I am being moronic here. How am I being dishonest with myself?
Well, you do speak your true feelings about me after all. No really, I'm, glad that you think I'm a moron. I don't get along well with people who are courteous for the sake of political correctness. I prefer the truth so that I may know where my true friendships lie. I really can't back your statement though with anything other than my ideas are so different than yours.

And just so you know, being a racist, homophobic and generally ignorant person isnt going to win you any friends. Internet or no.
Well, I did have lots of potential good friends before moving out of Jacksonville, and here too before most of them moved away to make a decent living in a town that doesn't suck. (Why the f**k did my people choose this place as their ancestral grounds?) It's impossible to try and make any friends on the internets if they remain anonymous and don't share their feelings. I guess I'm not much for aquaintancism. My membership here was mostly mutual at first too, but I still try to get along with other members here though regardless.

If American blacks were never enslaved, the majority of them wouldn't be over here in the first place. They'd still be chucking spears at one another and wearing loincloths.

Holy shit, before I just thought you were a blithering idiot who never received a proper formal education. Now I know you're not only that, but you're actually racist. That's just horrible blatant ignorance.

I'd enslave a "white man" if he owed me tons of money and refused to pay. Of course I would try to behave in a civilized manner first and work out a deal with him before resorting to such extremes, but If I ever felt like he was abusing my trust and scoffing behind my back with his buddies about it...well, if people are going to act like animals then I'd treat them like animals.

Wait a second. Back up. Did you just admit that you'd willingly enslave another person?

I....wow....

I look forward to an apology from the ruling elites to the working classes for the slave-like conditions they were put through in the industrial revolution and beyond. Also serfdom.

To be fair to Saturos, there are some cases where the slaves were treated well by there masters but it should be stressed these were not common and that it doesn't justify slavery in any way.

It doesn't matter if they took good care of their slaves, they were still slaves. Sheesh. Look at Australia we tried to help children from aboriginal families by placing them in environments where they would be able to get a decent level of education. Well that backfired all the well educated Aboriginals hate us because we took them from their parents, bawww!

I know those who were "fair" to the African American "indentured servants" were few and far in between, which is a pity because if at least the majority were treated fairly, maybe there wouldn't be headlines and forum threads about this.

you miss the entire point

a gilded cage is still a cage

they were still treated as subhuman because they were not afforded the same basic right as other races: freedom

It doesn't matter if they took good care of their slaves, they where still slaves.
This is the point that Krynn and Stern was trying to explain to me, and I know this. I was just trying to show them a different approach is all.

Some of you guys (Krynn and Stern) didn't have to be dickheads about the whole thing though. Even if I do sound bat-shit crazy at times. I though we were supposed to be open-minded here?

I have no direct relations with any slave owner. That would almost be like jews persecuting and forcefully demanding an apology from the great great grandson of a former Nazi regime general. An entirely different entity with the only ties being genetic.

That said, I don't know any former black slaves, (and there are a ton of blacks in my area) nor was I ever a slave master, so I don't see where this generation of African Americans gets off thinking everybody else owes them an apology. Those days have long since past and almost all former slave owners are probably dirt by now anyways.
Sure they were bastards for whipping and making their ancestors pick the cotton fields, but that's got nothing to do with today's generation.

Futhermore, why don't I ever hear Native Americans raising such a big stink about a former apology for what our ancestors did to them during the events of the Trail of Tears and all around mistreatment just because they were indians?

you just dont get it. it can be explained to you till people are blue in the face and it just doesnt sink in ...the government is apologizing not the general public..what did you think? they set up microphones throughout the US for people to record messages of apology or perhaps a general" letters of apology to black folk" Post Office Box?

are you ****ing serious, slavery was abolished in 1865 in the US, they'd have to be more than 150 years old

"Please report to Public Microphone #34721 at the Mall of America, right next to Denny's (try our new bacon wrapped deep fried breakfast burritos) for your public apology. Please refrain from using any of the following terms in your apology: ******, coon, sambo, no"

your ignorance cup overfloweth

It's still silly which my earlier post kind of covered. Why should the government apologise for a previous governments action or inaction? Either way I don't really care as long as it doesn't open up the doors for more compensation.

because regardless if every single government official is dead or alive the government exists without them ..the government doesnt begin or end with the appointments, retirements, deaths of it's officials. it exists beyond the people who administer it

I just can't help but to think how many times the government "apologizes", but shirks the tab over to the taxpayers.
"Oh we're sorry, but we're making everyone else not associated with this BS fork over the $ because we're a bunch of twisted, manipulative, dickheaded, backstabbing, politicians."
It's happened many times before.

Duhr. That's exactly the POINT I WAS TRYING TO MAKE! :dozey:

That one actually made me laugh a few lolz Stern. I still don't like you though. :dozey:

I figured there had to be something out there. Maybe it is because they are in fewer numbers then.

I'm black and I think this is hilarious. Then again, I'm in Canada.

Wait, so you're a black Canadian Muslim? Well arn't you just Mr. Unique. :D

Jay Leno talked about this last night - he just made fun of it, it was funny.

Jay Leno sucks. He's such a conceited, self-righteous bastard that takes himself way to serious. He never lets his guests talk, but keeps interrupting them with crappy one-liners.

/end rant
