I've enjoyed reading information from these forums which describe the advances in computer technology taking place, and how HL2 is a showcase for some of them. Many of these, I feel, will help make games more beneficial as well as entertaining.
It has been known for some time that playing computer games improves reaction times, dexterity and memory. Games like Call of Duty provide historical insight which sticks in your head. However, the advances in physics and AI will provide improvements in other areas, such as tactical and lateral thinking in real-time.
This all depends, of course, on how you choose to play. This doesn't mean that it's good to play for hours on end. What I am saying is that games like this IN MODERATION, are fast becoming great ways of learning. Games can be made tough now by making the opponent more intelligent, whilst in the past they were simply made unrealistically tougher. Now you can think more (which is good for you) rather than just search for a weakness (which is boring).
