Hello,
My internet connection uses ADSL and each time I connect to the internet, my ISP assigns me with a different IP address.

I have a requirement for a static IP address (something which my ISP doesn't provide). I believe this can achieved by connecting to the internet via a proxy server.

Can anyone give me any tips or instruction on how to do this while also making sure it's secure (for things like internet shopping, logging into e-mails etc.).

Cheers.

Not really practical I'd say; every time your DHCP issued you with a new ip you'd have to re-register with whatever proxy service you used (do-able with a script maybe)

To be honest I'd say it was much easier just to plump the extra 3 quid or whatever they usually charge for a static ip.

Out of curiosity, why do you need a static ip? Perhaps there is another way to accomplish what you want to do with it.

could give this a try, www.no-ip.com that will allow you to assign a host to your ip. you run a small prog as a service that updates teh host with your new ip addess when you connect to the net so basically you never need to check your ip adress, just use the host. You could have someone.no-ip.com and that would basically be your ip address. Worth a look, and i'm pretty tired so the explanation is pretty crap..

Basically, I need to do a bit of work from home. They require me to authenticate with a certain system via my normal log on details, but also my IP address as well. As my IP address changes all the time, every time I need to use this system I have to inform my workplaces networks team what my IP address.

Obviously what would be easier is if I could somehow make my IP address static. That way I'd always be let straight into the system with no hassle.

jonbob -- as I said, my ISP just doesn't offer that service at all. They issue no one with static IP addresses.

Having a look at no-ip.com... I reckon this will do the trick :D
