Hey guys, are there any really good tutorials out there that show you how to do uvw unwrapping? I know the basics, but I am jsut not very good at it yet... Also after I finish making my model using Ichi's method of plane modelling, how do I make the symmetry part of the model became an actual part of the model and combine everything into one group?

Delete te symmetry mod then go tools > mirror. Mirror along the corret axis. Attach both the elements and weld down the seam.

alright thanks, and is there any way i can just uvw unwrap only half the gun since it is symmetrical or do i have to uvw unwrap the whole thing after i do that mirror thing stormy told me to do... ?

if its symmetrical i suppose you can put the different sections of unwrap on top of each other, then they will both get the same texture.

if u get the two identical pieces unwrapped perfectly then u can just put one over the other and weld the two..thats what i do atleast.
but u have to get it perfect.

hmmm, this makes me think i should create a tutorial, seeing as ive been doing some unwrapping recently. i dont understand why people find it so hard to grasp. it seems kinda logical to me.

yes do it random hero! be the random hero for unwrapping tutorials!

did you see my post? That has a great video tutorial about it...

ya i have it dled now and am going to watch it soon.. thx sidewinder :) im guessing i have to do smooth groups before uvw unwrapping right?

no, you can do smooth group whenever, i think. sometimes it helps to change them after the model is skinned, to get the best look. i might just do a tutorial anyways, a bit of teaching never hurt anyone :p

Or you could just collapse the stack of modifiers and it'd weld it for you :)

Hey Random Hero btw. Got that mini finished yet?

lol craig, i started a new one :p i didnt realise it was you. yeah, the new ones high poly, and might be put into HL2. havnt worked on it for a while, cause ive been going on holiday a lot for some reason. ill get back to it, cause it looking pretty darn nice :D
