Ok witrh summer here my CPU temp has started to go up the ying yang. In the winter i invested in a really good Heatsink and fan +3 case fans as my system was overheating alot. I got a freind to fit them at the time and im wondering now if the CPU fan has been fitted right. I opened up my case to give it a quick hoover and after started to notice certain case fans were sucking In air rather than blowing out. Then I noticed the CPU fan is also sucking IN air onto the CPU. Now I always figured that fans should be dispering or blowing air away from the CPU and case... Am i right??

Need to sort this ugently as im worried my CPU and other fans may be on the wrong way...

Cheers
Rob

Leave it. The idea is that cool air is pushed over the hot heatsink and thermal energy is tranfered to the air, which is then dispersed about the case, and eventually replaced by cool air from the fans blowing into the case.

What are your temps?

Yes, all CPU HSF's (that I know of) blow air onto the CPU. I have one fan in the front blowing air in, one on the side blowing in, and one in the back blowing out (+PSU blowing out)-this is typically a good configuration. What you want is for the air, in general, to be sucked in the front, warmed, and blown out the back.

ok cool thanks guys, I got the front fans blowing in + side fan, and all the back fans are now sucking out (CPU sucking in)

My temps before it went crazy were 50-60C and when they went nuts they were 70oc!!

it seems to be stable now though :) its a AthlonXP2800 btw
