I have a question does VAC2 actually detect cheats or does it just ban people?

It detects cheats I think. It's not in "banning stage" yet is it?

I think Valve do that after finding out who is cheating.

No, that would be the previous VAC beta. VAC2 will be banning, FOREVER. :E

No its not, its just still being tested.

I think it is, I already know someone (who will remain nameless), who merely had cheats on his computer (he tests them against bots to know exactly what to look for). He got banned from VAC servers, I know this due to a screenshot and the fact that my server keeps disconnecting him when I have VAC on it.
Mind you he ONLY plays Source.

How does it detect who hacks...
I only play 1.6 and I haven't seen anyone using speed hacks in a long ass time, walls and aimbot here and there but not near as bad as it used to be. I guess all the hax0rs switched to source...so good for me

Can we get a genuine confirmation that cheat detection is running? These one-off "I used hacks and was banned" statements aren't coming in fast enough to convince me that vac2 is working.

It scans the client's computer.

It simply means that the server has VAC active.
It's just warning you that if you use any cheats that you will be banned. :thumbs:

Anyone had the error saying "Cannot connect to VAC2 server, connection closing"?
and then you get kicked from a server?
I got a virus but couldn't be bothered to clear it before playing a bit of CSS and I kept getting this error. I cleared the virus and haven't had that problem since. This makes me think that on certain servers it doesn't ban, but it can detect cheats (a virus could essentially be detected as a cheat as I hear VAC2 detection works by looking for special looping DLL's or some such)
I think I'm lucky for this reason.
