In the latest interview with Doug Lombardi, he is asked for the minimum and recommended specs for playing the game. He gives us the same specs he gave us before, but goes on to say that the reccomended settings will give you at least 30 fps with most or all visual eye candy turned to the max. If this is true, I should have no problem playing the game. What about you all?

Hmmm is this yet another "will my pc run HL2?" thread in disguise? ;)

So where are these supposed benchmarks? All I see are system specs.

I didnt think of that before posting...but no its not meant to be one. Its just meant to point out some information to people who have been crying out wondering how WELL the game will play on their machine, not IF.

Yup it is, i quess this keeps the most guys in here alive. :p But knphf
Im sure mine upcoming computer will run good, amd athlon 64 3200+, 1024 mbram, ati radeon 9800 pro.. People should just settle down until the game is released if they care that much about it.

blah blah system specs blah blah blah........

I guess I missed the part where Doug gives us BENCHMARKS?

Valve is cute because they say they would release a benchmark um about ONE YEAR AGO.

Omg Omg Will It Run On My P4 3.8 Ghtz 3gigz Ram X900000 Pro???? Im Not Sure.... Ehlp Kekeke! :|

I guess I can live without a benchmark, but it would just be nice if people would stop calling the system requirements benchmarks all the time.

Whats the difference between benchmarks and requirements?

system requirements are requirements that the individual components of your computer must meet.

benchmarks are a score (usually based on a custom points system) that are produced by a benchmark program which runs a trimmed up version of the game engine or demo that is common across all systems so you can see how yours stacks up against the average (or whether it will render at all).

I want to see how the new nVidia cards handle HL2. I'm sure nVidia fixed the dx9 code path.

The NV40 line has much improved DX9 performance, but I would still expect similar ATi cards to run better since VALVe has been working with ATi.

It really doesn't matter that much. An x800 card doesn't look a whole lot better than a 9700 pro. I mean there might be a few things but nothing to noticeable. This is a on demand economy (there is a real world for what im trying to say) which means they will continue to put out similiar products that are slighty better because of how the business world works. What really is wild is how computer companies put out processors that are like .2 faster month after month or so, its insane!

when are people gonna learn the difference between benchies and ****in system requirements?

By the end of this week I should have on the recomended specs...

So, a GeForce FX 5200 with the recommended specs will give me atleast 30 fps on high detail?

I seriously hope so...

In direct X 8 mode, yes.

And Dx 8 mode is pretty good - only you won't see stuff like HDR and better water effects mainly.

Emm...no. X800 is going to perform way better than a 9700pro, true other specs do matter but basically even an overclocked 9700 pro can't compete with a X800. You'll be surprised that the 9700 pro competitior is a 9600XT (overclocked) or a FX 5950 ultra (overclocked).

Hey here's a way of "benchmarking" your system: run Farcry on very high detail and type r_displayinfo 1 in the console watch the FPS and you get a pretty good idea of how your pc will handle HL2.

Yeah, except the x800 series of cards are about three times faster than the 9700 series. I'm seeing incredibly similarities between the two.

Also, topic title edited from 'benchmarks' to 'requirements'.
