Valve and everyone please read!

Why doesn't valve release a very short demo (not with guns and monsters and stuff)...just a large room with a few objects and water...to walk around in....as a test to see if some people's systems will run the game well....this makes perfect sense doesn't it?

This would make me very happy.

Because of some strange reason they don't want to do it, maybe they don't want people to mod it and make a longer version, until the real game is released. But after the release it's possible they release a demo (like in HL1)

It'd ruin it in a way. Imagine getting the game it not being a unique experience. I'd rather get the game and it feel all new than get a 5 minute play of it before it comes out fully.

Yeah, they will proably have one after the release but I have the suspicion that there are some elements of the game that they still want to hide.

Personally, I'd rather wait for the actual game itself. That feeling of being back with Gordon as the cinematic-style credits fade in at the start of the game, savouring every new second of graphical glory...Benchmarking tools will be made available I believe, and thanks to Valve and the intelligent people on these forums we're getting a steady stream of media. I think its good that the actual gameplay is a bit shrouded in mystery, lack of playable demos will make the game more eagerly awaited.

THere is no final product yet..

1) Valve got thier own standarts you know...

2) If they will release unfinished map than some idiots here will start flaming how BAD the game is and probably wont even "bother" to buy the game due to its lack of "XXX".

a small demo doesn´t mean a small amount of work to make it. and i think everybody at valve should work on the final product instead of wasting the time for a demo

I was just reading and the likelyhood of a demo being made is very high, but after the games release. Which means almost everyone on this board will already own the game

what the hell do you expect.. ofcourse they aren't going to give you the engine for free before they release the game.. no matter how much you want it.

well i agee with chris that it would kinda ruin the game the same thing happened with me on metal gear solid 2 i played the demo experimenting with every little thing and all that hard work they did seem to lose momentum for me once i bought it

They BETTER put in a lot of Porn, or as you put it= "XXX".

I think it will be like in Half-Life, where they released the demo afterwards, and it was all new maps to play on, with it's own sub-story. Hopefully.

They probably will... but a few months after HL2 is released.
If they don't then it'll probably be the tech demo.

I am not going to go away. My question is simple. I know from my question you may think I am a n00b but me saying that I was there the moment the first CS was released online should clear things up....and I am not showing off so don't get all jealous.

Anyway, I thought of a good question that no one else has thought of yet and am e-mailing Gabe. It should help a lot with people wanting to know if their comps will run the game...and its a question he can answer too!

why email gabe? we already know they WON'T be putting out a demo before the game is available for sale.
