Valve originally signed up with Sierra as a publisher for HL1, Sierra was the only publishing company that was willing to fund Valves project so Valve was stuck with them. Part of the deal with Sierra meant signing a contract that is currently forcing Valve to continue developing games for them.

Vivendi Universal aquired Sierra and as a result the contract that Valve signed with Sierra makes Vivendi Universal Valves publisher.

Doubt the Rockstar logo would fit well on the HL2 box. But above that I wouldn't mind another publisher if VU is going to be bitchy. Just do their little dance and get the game out to the shelves.

As long as we don't see a EA games logo, I'm fine. What would you choose for publishers ?

I thought Rockstar was a developer?

Rockstar was/is also a publisher=max payne2 developed by remedy and produced by 3d realms and rockstar. What about ubisoft or maybe THQ? what the hell....bring back splinter faction of sierra, keep the same logo, call it Everest productions (refereing to the highest mountain) and produce more games like in their earlier years...Yeah i would go for a game produced by a rebuilt sierra company!!!

But isn't the lawsuit because of bad relations in the contract?

It looks like valve isn't the only one who had problems with VUG. I say..as soon has HL2 gets released...valve should change publishers because no one should go through this crap..unfortunatly valve and VUG are in a lawsuit so..it could be a while until valve gets out of this legal mess (and a pointless mess I might add).

As far as I remember Valve has an agreement with VU for 2 more titles after hl2.

But that's just my sucky memory talking

the lawsuit is because vivendi belives valve owes it money for online distribution... just because you think a friend owes you money doesnt mean hes not your friend, get it?

lawsuits between buisness partners happen ALL THE TIME.... its the way to settle disagreements about money and property, it doesnt nececcarally mean they dislike eachother.... (as opposed to personal lawsuits, which usally carry some kind of tort violation)

If my friend sues me, he is not my friend anymore.

Sierra were the only ones willing to publish Half-Life, not fund it. The money Sierra gave Valve was quite a low amount.
