Valve bans Modern Warfare 2 players by mistake, apologizes with free Left 4 Dead 2.

Threads where I know the whole story before entering.

Possible time saver.

Well, they buggered up ... but they've got the balls to put their hands up, make it right, AND give proper compensation to those affected.

If more companies in the world had Valve's philosophy, we'd all be a lot better off.

Clearly Valve is the best developer.

So it doesn't cost the players $13.99 to get their multiplayer back? Thats weird.

thats the best tactic i ever heard of. stops the people playing the one game, reminds them how shitty the game is, shoves another game in their face for free.....its a Win-Win situation!

All the usual Valve and Steam doomsayers on Rock, Paper, Shotgun were howling about the bannings earlier today, saying that Valve had finally been unmasked for what they really are. I guess not this time. Anyway, class move from Valve, mistakes will always be made, but what matters in the end is that you man up to it and they certainly did here.

I was never banned and I already own L4D2.

everythingwentbetterthanexpected

so they apologised by giving away a better game when took away the other one?

I'm sure now they're saying "they only did that to improve their own sales! They want more players so others are convinced to buy it!"

Well played, Valve.

It`s not just one copy, but two. One for you if you dont own it, and one free gift.

(I still dont have L4D2, so if someone has a spare gift they arent using...)

Just read the note from Gabe in that link. He's a really swell guy. :D

Valve is simply smart. They gave away Left 4 Dead 2 to these players that were wrongly accused of hacking and essentially helped them realize how bad Modern Warfare 2 is.

I'm pretty sure Valve's apology was accepted.

L4D2 never looked that good to me. Got burnt out on L4D very quickly, and didnt feel like paying for a few new maps and more characters I couldn't care about...

most people got burnt out from L4D 2 as well I think, myself included.

L4D2 is a fantastic game, for a while. But playing the same levels over and over just gets too boring.

There's a crapload of Steam and Valve bashing over at the Games for Windows Live forums. Hell, even with this move made by Valve they *still* take potshots at Valve. Well, these are the same nitwits who insist that Microsoft does more for PC Gaming than Valve.

Still, this is a cool move made by Valve. Not many developers admit to mistakes they have made and apologized for them, much less offer compensation.

I guess people will try to be cheating more often

Microsoft gave me Motocross Madness. They are forgiven.

Pretty sure your average MW2 player isn't going to give L4D2 more than a week. I mean, no leveling? No prestige? **** dat shit.

/me sighs at his prestige 3 account :(

What is it with you and GFWL?

+1 for L4D1/2 hate, fun until the campaign is over, zero replayability after that though.

It's not so much as GFWL but the fanboys repeatedly bashing Valve, Steam, and the fans (Which would be Us), all the while thinking that GFWL is the best thing to happen to PC Gaming. To them we're a bunch of loyal zombies who will eat anything made by Valve. To them I say "Yeah, well excuse me for sticking with a developer that sticks to quality and is still sticking with the PC".

I've always liked the L4D series since it at lest offers something a bit different to the dozens of military shooters out there. Though I'll admit that I haven't touched L4D ever since L4D2.

anyone got a free L4D2 for this poor Valve fan?

Sorry, don't have Modern Warfare 2. If you're patient enough this holiday season you may be able to get it off Steam for a very cheap price during a holiday sale.

I thought Games for Windows Live was just a giant in-joke or something...

I don't think anyone says anything like that outside of the GFWL forums. And why would anyone go there, anyway? It's like going to a leper colony for your vacation.
