Notice that new email clarky just got in the info thread. Notice how they completely beat around the bush and say "hl2 will support mp, and will sell mp games following hl2's release" Basically to me it sounds like they're saying we canceled mp, we don't have any, but we'll release rehashes ported to source for you to pay for.

It seemed fairlyl obvious to me that multiplayer is just going to be ported games like CS:S. I know a lot of people don't believe that or don't want to believe it, but I bet that's what it will be.

I don't think they have an "original" multiplayer idea. Good multiplayer doesn't have to be original, it just has to be fun.

Valve is starting to remind me of Bill Clinton... ;)

Reason people are in "denial" about this idea is precisely because they are
beating around the bush.

If it is that simple, why would there be bush beating? :imu:

You guys are stupid, ofcourse there will be TDM and DM modes for HL2 multiplayer just like HL1. You just have too much time to think of all the possible things that could go wrong. They are delivering a game where it's heart is in the multiplayer (and SP aswell). It wouldn't make sense if they can't even make a good impression on mod makers if THEY can't make a decent MP setup and system. DOH!

if you notice the subtle sign.. Rick said , that they have only announced CS:S, out of several, planned, all thats happening is their not announcing the HL2 MP, because first of all,... it comes with HL2 as part of the game.. and probably also because Valve find the HL2 multiplayer to be the most significant of the lot perhaps..? so are therefore keeping wraps on it (leaving the good stuff till last ;).. )

I am just afraid they are going to screw us over and charge a pretty penny for all the 'different' mp games.

I think we are all going to wish for the day when HL was released, and we got a whole lot of high quality, free, mods.

which mp games are you talking about the seperate retail cs:source mp games or the one that will ship with hl2?

and if the first half of that sentence is what your talking about, then valve has stated that ports of cs,hl1,and other stuff that has been sourced will be available at budget prices, i'm thinking around 30ish

Itd be cool for hl2 mutiplayer if one team was the headcrabs and the other was humans and the headcrab zombies evolved into the better faster ones that can climb walls and leap distances and the humans could pick the headcrabs up with the molipulator gun and shoot them into the wall and vehicles........must have the buggy

Hl2 multiplayer shipping with HL2, I keep hearing that : ,, like it's seperate or something.. Just like HL1 it'll be programmed into the makeup of the game, . Its stupid to think otherwise :p, CS:S is just for hardcore CS players who want a revamp.

Valve have a schedule to relasing information. They aren't going to screw it up by telling us lot all about it in e-mails.

The answer to clarky003's question is the form letter answer that all Valve employees are now sending in reply to anyone who asks about multiplayer. It's in the Info From Valve thread at least three times. We're obviously not going to get a different answer so perhaps it's best to wait until the damn game is released or a formal announcement is made, whichever comes first.

Orrrrrrr y'all can keep dreaming up wild speculation, whatever.

Ok well if you remember back to when they told everyone about all the different half life 2 games you could buy they said one comes with only single player. What game comes packaged without a built in multiplayer? none. Thus meaning that half life 2 probably has NO multiplayer of its own. Then the pack you can buy for like 50 bucks will probably come with 3 or so of the source ports. Its the most logical explanation to this.

its been almost a monst since E3 when the **** are we gonna get some more information? its summer and its hot and im bored...wtf i know thisa game isnt gonna shit this summer, no (good) games are ever released in the summer. but at least give me some info or a video to play with ffs.

See, I honestly don't think that HL2 is going to have MP in the sense that we are used to. Instead, it will have an MP comprised of the HL1 mp ports, TF2, etc, etc. And I think Valve is going to maybe stick it to us price wise in order to play all of these.

That is what I was saying.

that doesnt make much sense atall though, why deviate from popular 'tradition' :dozey:, for lack of a better word

The Source engine contains support for multiplayer gaming, and Valve
plans to release several multiplayer games at the time HL2 is made
available. We've announced Counter-Strike: Source. We will be more
releasing information on the other games and how they will be made
available to gamers in the coming weeks.

They way I interpret this statement is that HL2 will ship with no multiplayer. Instead, you can log onto Steam and pick [/U]one of the "several" MP games Valve is making and download it for free. After that you can probably buy any of the others. This would be kind of cool in a way because no one would be locked into a MP type that they don't really care for. If you like Counter Strike, then get CS:S as your MP. If you like Team Fortress, get TF2. And so on. There's probably a few other gametypes that we don't know of yet. So it would be MP a la carte. You've gotta admit - it does fit in with the direction Valve is going...

That actually does sound pretty cool, tbh. But there'd have to be at least one or two new games/ gametypes, because otherwise, i think that half-life 2 would have quiet a bit of bad publicity going for it

EDIT: also, just noticed, ide definately want more than one. i'de probably want maybe 3 free ones, then pay for whatever other ones later.

*just realised how bad the word **want** looks in that sentance . oh well, im sure you all know what i mean.

yes of course you'll interpret it that way, he is obviously saying that because of future arrangments with information dates. (no spoiling the precious info), as stated before, holding the information back till just before release date.. kind of like a final hype jump before the game is released.

you can clearly see rick is holding it back, and I dont blame him,, they'll tell us everything when its close to going Gold

There's a difference between saying that HL2 will ship with no MP and saying that HL2 will have no MP at all.

What I said is that you will get to choose your MP game, instead of it being chosen for you and shipped with the game.

I don't care if the game has MP or not as long as it has 30+ good hours of gameplay in SP.

I wonder why they have a special singleplayer package if the normal package will not consist of a MP.

Good point Maybe the keycodes are different. The normal package has the MP option keycode and SP package does not. You would still have to package them differently, even if the content on the disc is exactly the same because there would be no way (that I can think of right now) to verify which version you bought otherwise. And keep in mind that you can upgrade the SP-only package thru Steam, which means the game is modular.

common, people, they aren't going to make a game for frikken 6 years and not include multiplayer in it... just w8, when HL2 comes out, it will have it's own multiplayer... in fact, if it doesn't, I welcome all of you to beat me with clown shoes :bonce:

heres why i think there will be HL2's own MP(makes sense to me anyways). because ive heard valve talk so much about physics in MP and how you as the server can pick whether or not objects are client side or serverside. why would they go into detail so much about this if there was no manipulator to warrant that?

and i can't imagine a manipulator in CS. TF2 maybe, but still..

also valve knows that we want to play MP in city 17 and places we visited in the SP game, i dont think they will take that away from us either.

This actually makes more sense than ny of the other weird theories out there. But man I hope it has more than just some mods I've already played for hours.

Sven Co-op2 will save us !:p

yeah. and other mods would save us too if there is no hl2 dm. ill personally start making city 17 deathmatch maps if valve doesnt

bah were all worrying too much. :), lets take a chill pill, im confident valve have put the HL2 MP along with it, quietly confident ;)

Why oh why would they waste what they have in the game and waste an oppotunity to sell cs source seperately?

If they simply make a deathmatch using the models from the game with the same weapons then there is one mp, they can then retail all the mods they own to their hearts content and make more money.

sorry if this typing is crap i just did weights and managed to **** both my arms up making my fingers act funny...god that makes me sound pathetic, it was a very manly weights sesh, honest.

When they say, "Half-Life 2 supports multiplayer," I assume it means that it will ship with vanilla death-match and that all the really cool stuff will either be seperate products or downloadable mods.

They don't want to reveal that Ricochet is going to be the multiplayer part of HL2
