This was supposed to be the game worth waiting for, so I rushed out and bought it after having loved HL1. But what the heck, you cant even play the game unless you go online, OK so thats not a big issue but the fact that I cant even register the game means I cant even play the thing.

To top this of It screwed up my browser on my high spec PC so it would even a access the web site, something about a real network addin not working. So I had to load it on my other PC, but I cant even register on steam via this PC. I have tried to register via Dial up, through my Company LAN and my DSL connection and ever time it fails via 3 different ISP's.

Surely Valve knew demand for this game was going to be big so they should have put the infrastructure in place to support users registering. Frankly I have had enough trying with it and will try again come the weekend. At least I have Halo 2 to play otherwise I think I would have just taken HL2 back to the shop.

Reading through Threads on a number of Forums it would appear I am not alone, shame really as it makes enjoying what I can only assume is a great game a chor and I cant really be assed to keep trying

Just some bad luck, mine worked smoothly, along with many others.

You just have to look at it from their point of view; they spent about 6 years creating the game along with milliosn of dollars.
Its normal they don't want their game on some warez site an hour after its release, resulting in this procedure via steam.

For an awful lot of people here the download is not the problem. The disc appears to be unreadable for a number of drives. This appears to be a problem valve are not even recognising. I want an explanation.

I think around 70-85% of people have no problem, the rest who do are beeing very loud about it. I'd just wait, and not blame VALVe.

Never had an authentication disc time limit problem...ever. The drive sails through rome total war far cry and doom3. I have a £3,000 system, state of the art yet this game is just too much for it. I don't agree with your satisfied customers percentage either.

Dont blame Valve, who should I blame then, after all its not my fault their systems that cant take the numbers of users trying to register their game, or should have not bought the game so that their would be less people trying to register.... ah yes thats what I shoudl have done how silly of me!!!

What are you basing your numbers on? As of right now there are people that have downloaded it on steam and bought it retail and both are having the same problem. I bought it retail.

I will blame VALVe. I will continue to blame them. If they've spent millions of dollars on it, and I continue to see posts about people that have beta tested other games released with hl2 that had audio issues reported and they are still having them in the final release, it comes down to one source- the product.

I hate to say it but they should get their act together and come up with a patch or *say something* at least give us (their customer- we don't have to buy sh*t and can return the product if we so choose, I'm not going to I'm waiting for a patch or instructions on how to fix it) some input on the problem besides that quick fix posted yesterday, why should we be stuck with something that is faulty?

This is not customer service, and its not the customer service guys fault we are having problems with this products it is the developers and coders and anyone else who had a hand in creating this game. If anyone knows of CS for VALVe, please keep that in mind.

That said, without the issues I think its a fantastic game, a little on the slow side for loading, but a fantastic game.

Who's responsible then? I pre-ordered the game online. I put in my credit card number. Vivendi sent copies of the game to EB Games. EB charged my credit card. EB sent a copy to me. Steam won't allow the game to start.

How is this not Valve's problem?
