I belive Valve is ignoring the HL2 community, being irresponsible about protecting the source and notifying different people/companies about delays, and being totally uncaring about its followers.

Why?

1. Valve announced the official delay 6 days before its scheduled release. They waited this long not because they thought they were going to make it, but because they wanted to mess with the community. They have done nothing but be mysterious and irresponsive to the community about delays and such. They never answer questions directly but instead intentionally confuse HL2 fans in order to make them buy the game more.

2. Valve has still not said when the game will be released and when rumors fly, Valve does NOTHING to clear them up! Valve just sits there tight lipped and doesn't care if they leave the entire HL2 community with their pants down.

3. Valve LIED about the source leak. They said that only a small portion of the code was taken and now we have an entire BETA build of the game?? Are you kidding me??? They outright LIED about it to their fans.

4. Valve even allowed the source leak to happen. What were they thinking having the source on a system accessible in any form to the internet??? And on a windows machine??!? That's insane!

5. Valve has done nothing in the past few months but do everything they can to make the HL2 community frustrated and angry towards them. They are uncaring about their fans and only come to us when they need our help.

Case in point: Gabe Newell is registered on this forum. His one real post was asking for our help in tracking down the hackers who stole the code. Where are his other posts?? He only came here when he needed our help!! Other than that, he couldn't give a rat's ass about us!!

And don't tell me he does because he answers emails. That takes 15 minutes out of his day and he never really answers any of the important questions.

I love Half-Life and I cannot wait for HL2, but Valve is treating us with disrespect and anger. It's unnecessary and it needs to be changed.

wow u talk alot just give us a one sentance review of what u r asking

First of all Valve probably doesn't know either when the game will ship know. There is probably a big mess over at Valve HQ at the moment. Give them time to sort everything out first.

Have you played the supposed BETA build? How do you know it is beta? All i've seen are like 20 different shots which could be just engine examples and have nothing to do with the game.

Well i agree on the next point. That should've never happened.

FYI: Valve is without any Internet acces at the moment, they shut all internet connections down so he is not even getting your emails, how should he answer them?

Man, I swear, if thoughts could kill, you'd die right now, gsibble. STFU and piss off, and stop whining like a kid who got his lollypop stolen!

What aggravates me about all the 'schedule' posts, is the posters obviously have absolutely not the tiniest inkling of what it's like to work in the games industry.

Valve have been the most communicative game dev on Earth, ever, full stop. It is common practice in many game devs that you can easily loose your job by disclosing project secrets. I have mailed valve staffers and found them not only prompt in replying, but helpful. If you mailed to anyone in my company, you wouldn't ever receive a reply, it's forbidden.

We spend incredible amounts of time meeting milestones, often working all night, forgoing having any kind of social life for months at a time. All trough development, specifications will change radically, publishers can order massive changes on a whim, and still expect the game to be ready due to the original timescale, I can easily say it's one of the most demanding jobs ive done, of many. and unless your an industry star you get paid squat.

So when some pissant posts ill considered, unfounded garbage like this, If I was in Valves position, I'd just say screw you and go do something where you are a little more appreciated. Until you buy this game they owe you nothing! Somewhere in the region of 500 man years has gone into this project and you can't wait a few months more? *sheesh!*

Not only that, but Valve are presumably right in the middle of a criminal investigation, I don't think it's usual for those in their situation to go blabbing and giving any more away.

I have no intent in voting on your absurd, hurtful little poll, and I hope no-one from Valve happens to read it.

i must admit that VALVe dont treat their fans very well... delaying HL2 6 days before the *supposed* realease, liying to us and lets not forget the TF2 delay too...
id say valve is like the bill gates of pc games, both god and satan.

Actually... he has had at least 2 posts... he discuessed AA with Nvidia and ATi cards if I remember right, it was his first post or so

Valve just got screwed out... and ur demanding answers? Let them sort it out... I'm sure right now their whole world is turned on end.... They are doing this game not for the profit, but b/c they like making great games that people will enjoy, this alone says Valve is NOT uncaring

Actually they ARE doing it for a profit. Which is why the game is going to cost $50.00 to purchase.

They won't be giving the game away for free.

But that's ok because they are a business like any other. Which means that they are in it for the money just like any other business.

We make games for love and profit, I love to do it becuase I like making amazing worlds of the imagination, and because I can make some people happy, and because it helps me heat my house, or to have a house in the first place.

Personally I moved from a much easier _much_ better paid job to do this thing that I love.

If you want to look for the main profit in gaming, I suggest you go and ask Viviendi/EA/Eidos how much they will be making on each box.

1. Valve announced the official delay 6 days before its scheduled release. They waited this long not because they thought they were going to make it, but because they wanted to mess with the community.
Assumption. You have no idea why they waited so long. Was it that they thought they could finish? Was it that a possible leak was being evaluated? You have only your own imagination as to the reason.

2. Valve has still not said when the game will be released and when rumors fly, Valve does NOTHING to clear them up! Valve just sits there tight lipped and doesn't care if they leave the entire HL2 community with their pants down.
They said "Holidays 2003". The problem is that people like you are NEVER satisfied. You want them to run around countering every single rumour you hear. Start ignoring rumours. As for your pants, I don't know why you have them down, but mine are just fine where they are.

3. Valve LIED about the source leak. They said that only a small portion of the code was taken and now we have an entire BETA build of the game?? Are you kidding me??? They outright LIED about it to their fans.
Prove it. From what I've heard there's 0 multiplayer code in this "beta" and it crashes frequently. No, I'm not talking about the source leak, I'm talking about the "beta leak".

4. Valve even allowed the source leak to happen. What were they thinking having the source on a system accessible in any form to the internet??? And on a windows machine??!? That's insane!
Careful, your stupidity is showing again. This game RUNS on windows machines - what do you EXPECT them to develop it on? It uses direct X remember? They may not have taken the precautions that are required for government classified information, but you can bet they have better security then you do. Of course, you have nothing that anyone knowledgable enough to pull off this hack would WANT on your machine.

5. Valve has done nothing in the past few months but do everything they can to make the HL2 community frustrated and angry towards them. They are uncaring about their fans and only come to us when they need our help.
Where the @#$@ did you get THAT idea? How many hours has Gabe (and others as case required) spent answering emails for their community? They've released screenshots, movies and then high quality versions of some of those movies. They've had public free beta testing of Steam and allowed testers to play games without a valid CD key.

Case in point: Gabe Newell is registered on this forum. His one real post was asking for our help in tracking down the hackers who stole the code. Where are his other posts?? He only came here when he needed our help!! Other than that, he couldn't give a rat's ass about us!!
Have you bothered to read the HUGE thread of "official information only"? Or is it too hard to find up there STICKIED at the top of the forum?

And don't tell me he does because he answers emails. That takes 15 minutes out of his day and he never really answers any of the important questions.
LOL. Oh yeah - 15 minutes. Look at the volume he's answered. Think of the tons of crap he sorted through to find questions that Valve is willing to answer at this time. You complain because they don't answer the questions YOU feel are important. Boohoo.

I love Half-Life and I cannot wait for HL2, but Valve is treating us with disrespect and anger. It's unnecessary and it needs to be changed.
Valve may not do everything perfectly, but they're trying to give their customers/fans a good game at a good price. They try. You whine. Who really needs to shape up here?

Ok I misspoke a bit.. they ARE doing it for proift... butt he profit they make on the project goes into their next one.... all the money they made off of HL they put into making HL2.... a lot of these guys are ungodly rich and really could retire now w/o a care in the world but they don't.... they aren't doing this for the money, it has been said time and time again from tons of people... I can't really show any prove of something so intangable... but I trust Valve completely, theya re doing what they need to right now to get this game to us... its sad when a company which tries to do the right things for game fans gets flamed b/c they don't telly ou everything you want to know about the game the first day they start it

You guys are just a bunch of whiners. Im betting none of you that think Valve is irresponsible even know what game developers have to go through. Also I would like you to explain to me why you feel like they have been purposly trying to annoy you? I mean what other company lets you e-mail their top employees and get answers from them (Valve info thread).

If you think Valve is uncarring and irresponsible then it is obvious you don't know all that much about how business works and how games are developed.

Valve are a company who have supported the HL community brilliantly for the last 5 years.

They created a brilliant game to start with.

They've given us regular updates, free stuff (TFC, DMC, Ricochet) they've started funding and supporting the most popular mods out (CS and DoD).

They totally re-wrote the netcode to make it better and make it possible to play on high-lag servers or make modem play more bearable.

They saw their game being plagued by cheats so they invested time and money into creating VAC, and have kept that continuously and regularly updated.

They've created and nurtured a large modding community.

Sure, they may have ****ed up the launch of Steam, but it's a good idea that's supposed to help the community. More options for buying games. A snazzy new interface. Easier to push updates to the community to ensure everyone has the same version automatically. Integrated server browser and instant messenger.

Sure, they may suck with release dates, but what game have you ever seen that hasn't slipped at least once? Game development and software in general is unpredictable, you never know what could happen at the last minute.

Yes, Valve has to sell this game, but that's because they need to eat. Gabe Newell helped found Valve out of his own pocket. He need never have worked again but he wanted to make games. They're not in it for the profit.

this is the stupidest poll ever. Games get delayed. Shit happens. Actually, more shit seems to have happened to valve then to any company ever before.

If I hear one more 13 year old rant about how its valves fault for "allowing" the hack, i'm gonna go nuts.

gsibble you are retarded. "don't tell me he answers emails". well he does. And he's the only developer I know who does that. You're lucky you know anything at all.

Remember when the internet didn't exist, and all you had were a few previews in print mags and you had to WAIT FOR THE GAME to know anything? or where you not born then?

sheeeesh.

Gabe has posted here before, but obviously since you just registered in sept. because you wanted to troll the hl2 community about release dates and leaks, you wouldn't know that know would you?

I think what he means is that when Doug Lombardi announced the delay with no reason why just mere days before September 30, Gabe was nowhere to be found on this forum to post why it was delayed.

Therefore all hell broke loose because everybody was left to speculate as to what in the world was going on.

But yet when Gabe wanted something from us, he's right here.

Without Valve there was no Half-Life, en there wouldn't be a HL community! I dont think Valve is making this game only for themselves, Valve is doing it for us. So don't blame them, blame the f* big hype around HL2, blame the hackers...

I hope this thread is closed soon. It has no real purpose other than to upset people.
