The majority would prefer not to here delays. The more updates valve give the more estimates you get meaning more delays. So its not a good thing to do.
Like say they say somin tomo (give an estimate) but there is a problem so its delayed. That problem is sorted so they release another estimate to the public, then another problem anothe delay. So the bigger the space between releasing info the better really otherwise loads of people will think the game is coming soon but then let down. They think its coming soon again then another let down and it repeats then people get really really pissed.
One of the reason titanic sank was cos it had crap rivets. lets hope HL2 doesnt have crap rivets.
