Hello fellow gamers.

The escapist is holding its developer showdown , where fans may vote on their favorite developer , at the moment , its the second last round , and Valve is up agaist Zynga a "developer" that made farmville and maffia wars.

Zynga has beaten NCsoft, Infinity ward, Rockstar North, and Square Enix!
and is now pitted against valve in this 5th round of the competition.

We need everyone that loves gaming to go vote for valve, this is bigger than zynga vs valve , this is non-gamer vs gamer.

the reason zynga has beaten all the previous developers is because it has bribed its millions of facebook-players with ingame items.

so , down to the importants.

to vote , you need either an escapist forum login , or a facebook account.
Here is a chart of the tournament
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/global/tournaments/standings/2-2010-March-Mayhem-Developers-Showdown

and here is where you vote http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/532.184375-Poll-Round-5-Field-of-Four-7-Zynga-vs-1-Valve

also you can get a second vote if you have a twitter account . simply tweet "I voted for @steam_games in Round 5 of The Escapist's March Mayhem: http://bit.ly/aANIUR #escMM."

we need valve to win , first of all , valve owns , secondly , we cant have zynga in the finals! that would be blasphemy
so if you know a forum that can contribute . copy my post .

I tried to vote in the first two rounds but I kept getting errors.

What kind of in-game items is valve offering if you vote for them?

Oh, yeesh! That's a relief.

I thought you were going to tell us Valve needs us to pay them in advance to make Episode 3.

haha, that's a crazy idea zt.

Ingame bribes to vote & a facebook login required. No wonder farmville crap is doing so well.

facebook login is not a requirment , its an additional way to log in ,
but you are right , if there was no facebook login , none of the zynga supporters would have figured out how to vote.

Is it over? I logged into my FB account but it still just shows me the current poll results, without an option to vote.

I think we can let the farmville morons have this one, champ

Wow. I figured they would haven't gotten past the second round.

Zynga makes great iPhone games.

I'm voting zynga to spite you lol olol lolololol

are you ****ing kidding me?

I voted for valve, but look, as of right now, it stands:

Zynga 53.6% (20455)
Valve 46.4% (17672)

my god people are idiots

I signed up just to vote. This is what I said

"come on people... Valve has been around since 1996, and their only goal has been to give great games to their fans. They have never pulled any strings to try to get as much money as possible out of their customers. Take the Orange Box, for example. FIVE GAMES - 50 DOLLARS! Every Orange Box they sold, they were only making 20% of the amount of money they could have made per game! At launch!

What other company would sacrifice themselves for their fans like that? certainly not Zynga!

that is all."

HAHAHAHA!

THIS IS WHAT SOME PEOPLE ACTUALLY BELIEVE!

Did you forget when Valve used to package up once-free mods and distribute them both standalone and as part of packages with other games? What about incentives to buy, like "Order L4D2 and get an exclusive TF2 hat?" You also cite the Orange Box; did you know that the reason Portal was thrown in was because they didn't think they could sell it as a standalone game, but since it proved to be popular the sequel is going to be a full $50?

"Their only goal has been to give great games to their fans." You must be goddamn delusional. Valve's goal, like any working company, is to MAKE MONEY. They aren't making games out of the goodness of their hearts, they're doing it for your cash. And if they find a way to get that cash, they're going to exploit it.

What happened to your join date and why did the nazis do this oh god what.
The mods knew I was too powerful as a 2003, so Pi struck my join date.

They may have done so in the past, and will so in the future, but compared to the kind of gimmicks and tricks other companies in the same top end league pull, Valve is pretty damn noble.

Darkside you pessimist :p

Eh I don't know. I like Valve, but sometimes I don't like what they do to their games.

. Day of Defeat was a really popular mod, now it's a retail game that no one cares.
. Condition Zero's production is completely a mess. I don't hate the final product, but I don't like it either. I wanted to play Gearbox's version, damn it.
. No Decay for PC. What's the ducking Steam for?
. It took them years to release Blue Shift on Steam. It was a half-assed port, but hey at least it was free for people who own HL.
. Half-Life: Source is a failure (it's fun to play). Why they didn't port the PlayStation 2 version, it's the most superior version available to date. I know it was supposed to show people how they can easily port their content to Source engine, but come on.

Laidlaw is a special case. I don't really understand what this guy is trying to do? He tells us to play the games for a better experience, then why he's trying to explain major events out of the games?

You don't have to play original Half-Life to understand Half-Life 2 makes the game look more like a standalone game, rather than being a direct sequel - not to mention how it has a little connection with early games.

Valve's communty is ducking retarded. I can't believe how they tried to boycott a game, and end up buying it.

I love Valve. :dork:

Valve won? They're in round 6 now it says! :D

You make all this sound so serious. Who gives a crap about some sites 'showdown'?

I don't have an 'escapist' login or facebook but i'm tempted to get one just to vote zynga because you made this thread.

I just voted Valve in the final round. It actually accepted my vote this time!:)

It's Valve vs Bioware in the final.

How the hell do I choose between those? Those are my two favourite developers.
