We have read that Portal 2 takes place a hundred years or so after the events of Half-life 2 Episode 2. The first Portal took place between Half-life 1 and Half-life 2, so there is a huge gap left unaccounted for in the Portal story arc. According to Erik Wolpaw at PAX East, Valve plans to fill us in:
"We're actually going to release something that we're not talking about yet that will give a little bit of the story of the interim time," "We're doing that before release."[br]
Before we get too excited about the Half-life and Portal story cross-over, Erik also said:
"We tried to keep as light a touch about it as we did in Portal 1. Fans of Half-Life will notice some things, but if you haven't played Half-Life they'll just kind of pass right by you. You're not going to see Gordon tromping through the facility."
Valve also demonstrated JK Simmons' part in Portal 2. Source - Kotaku, thanks to Stephane for the tip!

sounds like maybe a comic coming out?

Didn't the mention earlier that in Portal 2 there would be almost no hints at the HL Universe this time?

I guess it'll be more of the Aperture-Black Mesa rivalry.

I'm thinking either a comic, or set of comics or another update to the end of Portal; maybe showing us who or what the bot really is as Chell gets shoved into stasis.
