The Classification Review Board (formally the OFLC) have published a media release outlining a second bite at the cherry by Valve, to classify Left 4 Dead 2 in Australia. Originally the game was classified RC (Refused Classification) by the Classification Board on 15th September.
The Classification Review Board has received an application to review the classification of the computer game Left 4 Dead 2.[br]The Classification Review Board will meet on 22nd October 2009 to consider the application. The decision and reasons will later be published on www.classification.gov.au.
No word on any changes which may have been made to L4D2 in order for it to receive classification this time round. It seems likely there will have been a few. Thanks to Wonko for the news, see the media release here.

Hectic Glen you should change that part of the news post. L4D2 has not received a classification. Valve has applied for the board to review there decision on refusing the classification.

Technically, RC (refused classification) is a classification thats why in the statement it said "The Classification Review Board has received an application to review the classification of the computer game Left 4 Dead 2."

If valve get knocked back again, then thats when they will change the game around then reapply.

I hope to god this appeal works otherwise we get a shitty edited version.

hopefully they realize that the player is killing zombies

Australia has a very, very strict zombie protection policy. As a native animal, they are critically endangered, and their preservation is of paramount importance. Thus, a video game depicting the killing of hundreds, or even thousands, of Australia's most beloved native creature will not go down well.

Zombies are our national animal. On our coat of arms there is a emu and a zombie.

"Australians all let us rejoyce
For we have the zombies..."

You're misinterpreting what he wrote. "In order for it to" does not necessarily mean that it has already happened.

What? The board is reviewing their decision, the game hasn't changed. They are however also offering a censored version as well.

Left 4 Dead 2 came up on the cards, and we were told the situation here in Australia will see Valve continuing their appeal of the Refused Classification the game recently received. But a modified version of the game, he and Valve believe is in line with what the ratings board are after has also been submitted, as the ultimate goal will be to ensure Australia does not miss the November 17 launch of the game.

The question was raised as to what the situation would be if the appeal were eventually successful after the modified version had been released to which Gabe responded PC owners of the game would simply get a free update which would convert the game back to its original form, but couldn't specify how it would work for the console version because of all the red-tape and lengthy approval processes involved with each release and update console games go through.

There you have it.

Err...ok. Two N's by the way, zdrive.

This, I didn't say it had received classification at any point. The whole post is about the review on the 22nd, it's pretty damn obvious. The clue is also in the title, 'tries'.

The media release letter is fairly straight forward, I think 99% of the readers worked it out.

The guy above agrees with me.

How do you know? His post was talking about a different point.

You were interpreting Glenn as saying that it has already received classification when he wasn't.
Kyorisu was disagreeing with Glenn's opinion that changes have been made for this appeal.

Stop being pedantic when you're reading things incorrectly.

This bit implies it has received classification. It's pretty clear that it implies it.

In order for it to receive classification this time around because it didn't last time. I'm not sure how you're managing to read that wrong. The bit you're quoting makes it rather obvious the game didn't get a classification because if it did why would they make changes to get it classified again?

the " this time round" part implies that it has been given classification.

Valve: here, OFLC, check out our game.
OFLC: **** this game, we ain't classifying it
Valve: :(

LATER

Valve: Hey, OFLC, check out our game. We hope that THIS TIME YOU DO GIVE IT A CLASSIFICATION, UNLIKE LAST TIME. WHEN YOU DIDN'T
OFLC: Okay, lol

DO YOU UNDERSTAND HOW THIS IS WORKING, XDRIVE

I can't honestly work out if this is a joke or not?

"No word on any changes which may have been made to L4D2 in order for it to receive classification this time round."

It didn't receive classification last time, so I'm saying we're not aware of any changes made to L4D so it can be classified this time round. The first time round - RC. This time round (second time) I'm saying we don't know if there will be content changes to make the grade & be classified.

This is insanely nitpicky and silly. I wrote the first news post about it not receiving classification, so I'm pretty aware it was RC'ed last time, unless you think I have a 3 second memory?

Yes, x-drive - the cut version. We don't know what's cut yet, but something to do with intestines spilling out of open wounds, is my guess.

An independant review panel will convene on the 22nd of this month to go over the previous decision on the uncut version.

The decision to submit an edited version was made to ensure Left 4 Dead 2 met its planned November release date. Given that the Review Board will not report back on the appeal until October 22, it means there may not be enough time to get the unedited version on sale for the global launch.

Newell confirmed that if the edited version is released, then the Australian version would receive an update if the appeal proves successful. This would be free on PC, but he said he did not yet know how it might work on Xbox 360.

However, Newell stressed that this edited version is just a back-up plan in case the appeal fails or takes longer than expected. “Our goal is not to ship this second version,” he claimed, while declining to detail what elements had been edited.

If the uncut version doesn't get approved i'm going to start a riot.

It does suck, but i doubt it'll actually be that bad. I'm sure it will at least match l4d1...

Left4dead1 has blood and guts, how will left4dead2 match l4d1 if the game doesnt have blood and guts lol....

L4D2 has more blood and guts. Remove extra blood and guts and you have L4D1 style blood and guts. Simple.

It's worth noting that the censored version got the ma15+ rating, and stated "Strong Bloody Violence" as a part of it.

The Rating

You guys seriously need an 18+ rating. I mean, geeze, they're even trying to censor your internet over this sort of thing!
I'd compare them to some Big Brother sort of figure, but its Australia! You guys have a bunch of (for lack of better word at the time of writing) moralfags deciding what you can and can't do!

Not quite. If you look into the internet filter you'll see apart from trying to block CP they are interested in blocking legal pornography. If that doesn't make you go wtf I don't know what will. The Labor party has done nothing but royally cock everything up.

No, Steam only cares about where the game was bought not where you download and play it.
