For those of you who aren’t able to grab the latest issue of Computer Gaming World and read their tantalising Aftermath article, fear not. CGW’s sister site, 1UP, has something even better in store for us! Starting today, they plan to release an exclusive VALVe article every day of the week, right up until Friday- and here at Halflife2.net we’ll be providing daily coverage. Click here to see what’s in store for us over the coming week. [br] The first article is already up, and it provides an in-depth look at the focus of both Aftermath and The Lost Coast. It turns out that VALVe are centring Aftermath not around the destruction of City 17, but with the player’s relationship with Alyx. The whole game is helping you to associate with her- Alyx will always be at your side; fighting, talking, helping… VALVe want her to seem as real as possible. [br] As for The Lost Coast, rather than just being a typical Tech Demo, VALVe have taken the opportunity to delve into a part of the story that was never really explained in Half-Life 2; the origin of the head crab canisters.

We’ll keep you posted, so be sure to check Halflife2.net for updates.[br]At one point in the development of Half-Life 2 the idea for the gameplay of the canal section was that you would get the headcrab canister launcher and use it to bring down the helicopter at the end. That was scrapped for a variety of reasons, but among them was that before you witness the horror of Ravenholm it was much weaker than it could be. A basic framework for Lost Coast started to take shape from that old idea.
