how many hundreds of thousands(at least) of people are pissed off about what happened to hl2?? its a lot. anyway this was found out HOW long ago by valve that someone hacked them and still no one has been charged?

valve you need to put up a reward for finding the person who originally stole from you and other big people involved in screwing you over. even something small like $25,000.00. u know how many people would be on the case if you did that? imo its at least worth that just to have someone busted for screwing over an entire gaming community. that one airforce guy or whatever in another thread worked for a few hours and looked like he found a little something.

anyway look how many views the thread by gabe has gotten i think its over 500k so its not like no one cares.

unless they found some people and arent telling us. either way its gay that this happened. just my .02 :)

I disagree. Rewards would make the hackers "friends" turn him in. It happens all the time. He brags to someone what he did. They get 25k, and loose a friend.. no biggy.

thats what im saying oldi... someone out there knows something.

and wtf

internet friendship > $25,000.00 hmmmm im thinking NO

if you dont like it dont read it you ****ing mental midget

thats twice now youve posted about the stupidest thing youve EVER heard.

i mean 3 now

this isn't the ****ing wild west, you know
the idea that valve should pay someone 25 thousand dollars to find out who leaked their source code is ridiculous
i can't comprehend how someone could actually think of something like this, then have the nerve to share that thought with other people.

This is a terrible idea.

This kind of act would promote the use of hacking for the new reason of blackmailing for a quick profit.

Rewards are used for MANY crimes. There is even a reward out for the capture of Osama Bin Laden...

You guys are morons....

ever heard of sarcasm dipshit? pretty obvious to everyone but you. haha

lol 'then have the nerve' oh thats golden

although now that i think about it. if i knew for sure it was someone like mercury you bet your sweet ass id sell him out in a heartbeat

and it could be worth it to valve **** i dont know. i mean think how much money theyre losing.

adam i dont think that ppl would do that bc how many times have you seen a company and a game as big as valve and hl2 have this happen to them.

god damn there are some immature people on this forum. Give me one good reason why this isnt a good idea? It's a fantastic idea, although I dont consider $25k to be a 'small amount', I would think more along the lines of <$10k

Dr-X i was speaking in terms of how much valve could probably afford :)

Yeah but im talking in terms of what's realistic for what you'd really be acheiving.

You should post less.

First of all, rewards or "bounty" are hardly worthwhile in cases of intellectual property theft such as this one, and can very often compromise the integrity of the case.

Second of all, they don't know who did it. Bounties are typically only issued when the suspect in question has been identified. This is because if they don't know who did it, it can very often become an absolute mess thanks to false information from people attempting to claim a reward....for example, the information hotline that was set up to deal with the washington sniper with the promise of a reward for information. It was a mess of everything from people who saw any number of white minivans to nutjob psychics who claimed they know when the next shooting is going to occur.

Imagine the shitstorm of useless spam that would occur if Valve decided it'd make an appeal to the intellectually challenged denizens of the interweb to help nab the culprit.

Yes, you don't really have any idea how criminal cases like these work. That's what I'm saying. And now you're getting angry for no good reason at the people who are telling you it's a dumb idea, when it is in fact, a dumb idea.

Wait.. whats so great about this idea? How does valve gain from catching the guy? Discourage further attempts?

Its not like they can recover the damages at this point, whats their incentive to post some reward?

I'm not saying its a stupid idea, I just dont think there is really all that much real incentive for them to spend any money catching the person.

once again, i dont give a shit about criminal cases. and apperantly you missed my post where i pointed out it was sarcasm.

and just bc someone call you a ****tard doesnt mean theyre angry. it just means that you are, in fact, a ****tard for trying to correct someones sarcasm.

ahahha reward? what you gonna do post pics of the 'bandit' all over the city, staple em to walls n shit, post em on bill boards hahahha

'wanted dead or alive' $5000

You only backpedaled and called it sarcasm after a landslide of people pointed out how stupid of an idea it was. Up to that point, it was pretty much vitriolic insults towards anyone who thought the idea was dumb. I seriously doubt you posted this thread with sarcasm originally in mind, unless your idea of sarcasm is to appear as mean-spirited and stupid as possible.

Whatever, though. I've taken my shot at you, and that's that.

Lol he actually has a good point, 25,000 dollars and immunity (if you were involved in the theft) for getting the crackers.

Try to get attention on another forum ox1de, cause your a jackass.

i don't see whats wrong with the idea. maybe a bit much, but people offer rewards for information all the time.

ok guys guess what, the reward is getting a ****ing awesome game valve spent years on. we owe them the trouble of sending them an email if we find somehting, a reward is just being selfish

also, they dont even need to offer one because there are actually good people who dont do things for money, and the hl community is so big there are enough of them that are willing to help and able to aid valve in this shitty time

Bottom line, why offer a reward when the fbi will find them for free? Thats IF they catch them, and I am sure someone will end up paying a hefty fine in any case.

Hey, I have a question Cheetarah. If so many people are willing to help, why has no one been arrested? At least not that I've heard hehe. Just a question not a jab at you. :) I mean, is this person turbo hard to find or something? Sounds to me like lots of people are looking but no one can find him/her.

Also, danstc i thought this was meant to be a sarcastic thread before reading past the first post. Maybe I'm just demented. ;)

Seriously though, over a week and no names made public? Why would they not tell the theif's name? That makes no sense. Either they have not caught anyone or they are being anal and for whatever reason not releasing a name.

lol @ the people flaming the author of this thread. I'm sure he's going to lose sleep over it.

Well I can say this, most people being investigated do not know it. Trust me when I say whoever is responsible most likely thinks they will never be caught. Well thats exactly what the people who made those famous viruses thought, and they were not even this country.
