Im going from what StarMonkey said on the site that SpuD confirmed the email.
From: "Doug Lombardi" <[email protected]>
To: "'Adam(SpuD)'" <[email protected]>, "Gabe Newell" <[email protected]>, "John Cook" <[email protected]>, [email protected]
Subject: RE: HalfLife2.net wants confirmation.
Date: Tue, 23 Sep 2003 22:04:59 -0700Hi.
Notice the problem with the To: line?
<[email protected]>, "Gabe Newell" <[email protected]>, "John Cook" <[email protected]>, [email protected]
What's missing the pattern? the <> around erik's name perhaps? If he copy pasted it that should be in there. That's problem #1

Look at the time it says 9:46 PM but i thought up above it reads:
Date: Tue, 23 Sep 2003 22:04:59 -0700Hi.
Wait a min. if the time says 22:04:59 thats military time? then shouldn't the 9:46PM read 21:46:00? Thats a bit odd the outgoing mail server uses that and the incoming uses military? That's Problem #2

From the line above is missing the <> as well, but this could just be because its not in spud's address book so i'll let that slide.
Lastly just the statement itself:
"Yes, I sent that note to Shack.
Sorry it didn't reach the entire press list at once.
And, as you may have guessed, that's all we can say -- for the moment anyway.
Cheers"
Yah, that really sounds like some intelligent person from valve. If they are going to delay the game they could at least sound a tad more professional. I have spoken to many of the valve guys via email over the years and nothing as sounded as retarded as this. Nor do they end with cheers...most valve guys have a sig after their emails but spud could have edited that out. Anyway that's problem #3 since the <> one above doesn't count.
My advice is to ignore this whole email deal and just sit back and wait for someone to say something real. One site is gonna say its confirmed someone else is going to say its a lie, and its going to go back and forth. People will flame each other for whos right and whos wrong but im telling you guys if the game is delayed you'll know it offically, not just via some crappy email to all the news sites. It's not how it works. Do i think HL2 will make the 30th? Sure, i hope it does just like you all do but im expecting it to possibly be delayed but I don't think valve has enough balls to pull the plug on the release date 6 days away it's just not their style they are holding an Ace up their sleve just you watch. Until then flame me if you wish but take my advice and don't worry about these emails and what the news sites say cause they are all just fans like you and nothing more.
