Ive tried searching steam news and on these forums but cant find a specific deadline date of any links to submission details, can anyone help me out?

Cheers
Rob

I think it has to be sent to them by January 15. I'm not sure, though. Check the Steam news section; it's in there somewhere.

They should be extending the deadline....
If I were Valve - I would have kept a mapping contest later on, when more people got the hang of all the mapping tools... that way more and more advanced maps can be optimized and thus getting better submissions.

well, most people who would be mapping for the contest are already advanced Hammer users, and a few months is enough time to learn the new parts, I should think.

I agree with Geronimous, I've only really been building my map properly for the last couple of weeks after finding my feet in Hammer for the first few weeks.

Right now I just cant find enough time to do everything I want to make it a perfect map. I've found myself cutting corners and leaving out features because I just dont have the time to learn how to do them.

I'd hve liked to have put the map through some rigorous playtesting too to help me balance out my map and iron out any problems too.

I wonder if there is some kind of 2 Day delivery service to the US?

EDIT: Ennui, shouldn't new users have the opportunity to enter though?

I'd also like to know how long the delivery to the US from UK will take, at the moment im planning on getting it sent off by the 10th just to give it 5 days to get there, which im still not certain is enough :\ Damm deadlines

Thats what I was also thinking MrMan, but I have to tell you, we have sent stuff over to the states before at work and its never reliable even by airmail 1st class. One package took 2 weeks to arrive over there! :(

I know, and the only experience ive had with stateside post was an order from the internet which took 3 weeks to arrive...still, im sure valve won't be too harsh on people who send them items postmarked for 5 days or so before the release date...hopefully

Well if the guidelines read true, they dont seem to want to be very relaxed witht he rules :(

I wonder who else has managed to get an original DM map ready for the deadline?

8. Valve Rights to Contest Entries. By accepting a prize, each winner grants Valve the royalty-free, fully-paid, worldwide, irrevocable, nonexclusive, perpetual right to exploit the intellectual property rights in the Contest Entry, including without limitation, at Valve’s option, distributing the Contest Entry to the public commercially or for free.

They are doing this to screw us. They want to steal our work.

No, not really, there IS the prize money, and personally I would be proud to see my map paraded by Valve.

btw I was just looking up some other forms of post and thought of Fedex, they do a 2 day delivery from the UK but it costs £26 I think. I dont mind paying that if I feel my map is up to the prize, but it's still a pain in the ass :(

Of course, if reading comprehension was your forté, you'd realise that Valve only get to own the three maps that win. You know, the ones that the authors get $5000 or $3000 for. Everyone else gets to keep the rights to their maps. Take the tinfoil hat off, kiddo.

How are they stealing? You give them the right to take it by accepting the prize money.

Not exactly. It's just so if Valve plans to make something similar to anything in someone's map they received, they can do it without being assaulted by lawsuits. There are weasels out there that try to pull this stuff all the time. If you plan to make millions off of your level design later in life, just don't include it.
I know I would like to see one of my ideas implemented in Half-Life 3.

Are you going to be entering your map Pi Mu Rho? its one of the best I've seen so far!

Yes I am. I'm just finishing off the final version.

Are you from the US or UK? if the latter how are you planning on sending it to Valve?

UK. I've got a relative in the US that's posting mine for me.

I sent my map yesterday, and I live in Canada.

Im hoping to send mine tomorrow, if only the registration page worked correctly for me, first time it opened a new page and gave my details twice, 3rd time it printed out missing half the words and shutting my browser off, is there a limit to how many times you can use that registration thing?
