When you are playing raceing games you can use a steering wheel to play it, and it is more realistic and fun that way. Will you be able to use a steering wheel to drive the vehicles in HL2. It would be just like the other raceing games that you will never have to pay for again accept much better!!!!!!!!

yes you can, its in the valve info thread.

I doubt it'll be all that useful though. I can understand if you're playing Gran Turismo because you'll be driving throughout the whole game. In HL2 you'll only be driving for short amounts of time in different places.

Be useful for HLRally (assuming they move it over to source)

Thank you for that info and Im sorry about my bad spelling, English is my second language, I started learning it 3 1/2 yrs ago.

Don't worry about that Link. It's a lot better than most people with English as a second language.

Actually it's considerably better than some people here who say English is their first language!

Wh4t 4r3 y0u try1ng t0 s4y Chr1s_D?

I hope they have a vehical control style like in Halo.

I hope there will be support for it, would be cool for those who have steering wheels!

I ar felling eensoolted!!111!1!!!1

Seriously though, it probably won't be in standard HL2 but will most likely be implemented in mods since Kaf11 says its in the Valve info thread then it must mean the code will be sitting there waiting for someone to use it in a mod.

:naughty: Wow, that is tight. If you actually use a steering wheel for dirving vehicles you ARE some Half-Life 2 die-hard fan. The wonders of racing game mods :) .

Nah, i think first person will be fine. I think (hope, at least) it will be like the jeep in BF1942, mouse to look in first person, keyboard to turn the wheel. it worked perfect for me.

hehe, any news about a mod for hl2 that concentrates on vehicular gameplay?

I wonder if the vehicles will have unlimited fuel? I hope so, with gas over $2.00 per gallon

I have to laugh at how you guys think that's expensive.

"Gas" is €1 per litre here at the moment. Which is €4.55 per gallon.

That's $5.57 per gallon.

Seriously? I thought that Halo had some of the worst driving controls ever, but that was just me. I think I'll stick to first-person left-strafe, right-strafe steering, which is what HL2 has as of now.

I LOVED the Halo vehicle controls. They were hard as hell if you didn't know how they worked, but once you figured out the basics, they were alot easier than conventional vehicle controls.

To each his own I guess. It was just that "point this way to move this way" aspect that annoyed me. When things got choppy it made it very hard to steer, even more so on the PC version, not to mention it wasn't that precise. Then again, typical PC FPS controls aren't that precise either, so I don't have much room to whine there.

r j00 makng phun of mehh?! :dork: :p

anyway, like Shuzer said, a steering wheel would be useful for HL-Rally assuming its available in source..

hmm.. i was thinking of a mod.. something similar to Destruction Derby :E
im sure there will be a mod or 2 out there eventually :)

edit: just wanted to mention that i liked Halo's vehicle control and hope its similar or better :)

True, it wasn't precise at all, but in Halo you didn't really need to be.

I absolutely loved the way vehicles behaved in Halo on XBox. I've never played the PC version but I assume it worked equally as well.

I wanna know why you can't see Freeman's hands when he's driving in Half-Life 2?
You can see them when he holds a gun, why not for driving then??

By the way, vehicle behaviour in Halo PC was perfect, the powerdrifting was great.
The controls felt so natural to me.

It'd be difficult to animate, I guess. Attaching view models to the world model, and adding shifting, aiming the gun, etc. It's a lot of effort for something that's easily compensated for with imagination.

I want to be able to look around when I'm driving...

Alot of ppl who play BF1942 use sticks and steering wheels, to fly and drive :)

Your English is better than the majority of Halflife2.net members.

the driving looks cooler than in any other game...*sigh*

I really didnt like Halo (for PC's [never played it on xBox]) driving controls. I liked BF1942's controls a lot better. Easier to steer, and allows you to look around the area.

did anyone buy far-cry? is it just me, or do the vehicles (cars) there have like no traction at all, they just seem to slip and shit...

Yeah It does seem like that. And they all go from 0-100 in .09 seconds. Dont get me wrong, I liked the game, just the vehicle handling needs tweaking.

I agree with Mountain Man's post below. UT2004 had great vehicle control and handling. I had forgotten about that. /me runs off to play UT2004, then realizes.../me is at work. :(

Far Cry's vehicle physics are the worst I've ever seen. Unreal Tournament 2004's vehicles are the current gold standard. They handle superbly well and are very intuitive and easy to control. From what I've seen in the videos, Half-Life 2's vehicles are closer to UT2004 than Far Cry.

I liked BF1942's...

keyboard steers and mouse aims the gun....

hell the most fun i had was flying with the mouse....

or in Desert Combat mod being a totaly elite chopper pilot with my mouse and keyboard.

im talking pin point precisision drops on the top of churches and guys jumping off a cliff and into my chopper in a special ops mission... :naughty:

I think the Far Cry vehicles were Ok, not great, but of course there was no traction, you're driving on mud and sand. UT2k4 has great vehicle physics, I love it.
