i have been thinking over this again and again and just cant think of anything. so i type this thread to get some opinions. i have a ventilation shaft in my map, but of course it's real dark. really, its too dark. it runs along the ceiling and i even have spots where there are grates so the light from the main area below it can leak through and luminate the vents, but that is only slightly effective. i need my vents to be brighter. yeah i could put lights and light bulbs in it, but that wouldnt make any sense would it? it is a DM map so the flashlight may or may not be enabled (depends on server) and i dont want to rely on that. The one thing i thought of was putting more ventilation holes in the ceiling so to allow more light to leak through, but im not too eager to dive into that idea. im sure others have come across this issue as well, so any advice or opinions of what i should do with regards to this would be appreciated.

Instead of just relying on ambient light shining through the various holes, put some other lightsource just outside the holes. like a lightbulb hanging just outside, or a spotlight shining up at it.

Also, put rather bright lights outside both entrances of the vent.
At the very least, this will make the exits of the vent glow, which is all you really need to see from inside.

Either than, or you could go with the solution that valve used in lockdown (and that i'm using): instead of just plain vents, insert a more complex fan chamber or something, where the complicated machinery would make some sort of light source necessary and plausible.

i just added some small blue'ish lights inside the vent, looked ok too :)

well my tunnel doesnt go just one way. it's more like a chain of vents all connected to eachother. so, i cant just shine a light through it. im not sure about putting lights just outside the vent going upward, it would look mighty awkward. but i think i might use that lockdown idea. ill just put in a room that connects to the vents at some place, and put some mildy neat stuff in the room (currently, there arent many reasons to go into the vents). ill put some lights in that room. that might make putting lights (blue ones sound good) all throughout the entire ventilation system more understandable. thanks guys.
