OK, it's like this... I have a problem with my monitor (I think it's the monitor). Colors show up just fine, white is white and black is black. the problem is, that everything that's dark is very dark, almost black. I'll try to explain - In Doom 3, the game is VERY VERY dark (completely non-playable), so I thought I should make the gamma correction higher. But what happend, is that wereever there is a light source or a bright area it was overbright, like when I use the flashlight it's so bright (the lit area) that I only see white, and the dark areas stayed almost the same - very dark. What is causing this? what setting do I need to change in order to fix this?
I have an old MAG XJ700t 17" monitor, a little old but it works great, no problems except for this one. Thanks in advanced.

I've checked... I tried lowering it down to 0% (which of course wouldn't have worked, but I tried it anyway), all the way up, and in between. Didn't change a thing...

Its probably because you're playing Doom3...

That's not the issue. I am well aware of Doom 3 being a low brightness game, but it is REALLY dark on my monitor. And even if it was the issue, as I said, I tried maxing out the gamma correction which should've made the game ugly, but also a LOT brighter... but id only made bright objects look brighter. Dark corners and such remained almost black...

try changing some settings in the contol panel of your video card, i think there are some settings for fixing the gamma and contrast ect.

I tried that...
In nVidia's control panel there is a section called Collor Correction which has lots of things to change. But I don't know what to meddle with...

Wish I had the money...
Wouldn't mind a NEC 30" LCD wide-screen display at $3000.

Anyway, isn't there any way to change how black and white acts? Like in photoshop, you can tell it how much white and how much black to display relatively to each other (levels)...

Doom3 is very dark, sometimes pitch black

On my Ati, there is a tab to adjust that stuff, but then you might have to re-adjust it for other games.

How does it look like with the flashlight?

You can try a flashlight mod, which will alow you to have your flashlight taped to your guns, but I don't know without seeing your screen if thats going to compensate for your problem.

Search for doom 3 flashlight mod here

Yeah, Doom 3 looks like that to me. I adjust the brightness ingame, and when I shine the flashlight on things, its completley white. It doesn't bother me too much, I could easily change the brightness/contrast on my monitor but I don't fell like changing it (it never looks the same to me and can't get used to it). Just try making a color profile with the Nvidia driver contol panel.
