I am considering buying a Radeon 9800 pro at the end of the month. My money is limited to the low to mid 200 range. Is this a good choice, and should I get things at high settings with decent framerate?

9800rpo is good, unless u want to use hl2 with highest on everything, get x800, personally, i got 9800pro

Yes its the best choice for your budget and you will get great fps.

If the rest of your system specs are okay, yes it would be an excellent choice.

The 9800 Pro is still a great card - see if you can stretch to afford the 256 MB version!

The extra texture memory will come in handy if you want to play with a little AA/AF :D

You didn't tell us your system specs. How would we know if this is a good card for you or not?

i have the 9800Xt 256mb *with 3.2 ghz and 1GIG mem and DOOM3 runs on ultra and all highest everything and it runs great. going to buy more GIG *so it will boost my pc to 2gigs before hl2 :D

So it wont be a waste and disappointment then?
I am running on a 2.8Ghz P4
512MB 3200DDR Ram

I have a 9800 Pro and Doom 3 runs like a charm, and thats a Graphics orientated game!

Half life 2 will be NOWHERE near as taxing as Doom 3 on a radeon 9800 Pro! I would bet my house that a 9800 Pro will play Half Life 2 admirably - even with some antialising and ansitropic filtering!

Consider that ATI bundled a voucher for half life 2 with the 9600 XT - a card thats not a patch on a 9800 Pro!

The 9800 Pro would be an excellent choice for your computer.

Even if it is the 128 will it still be great? Compared to my Nvidia 5200FX 128?

compared to the 5200. that 9800 will be a diamond and the 5200 will be stone

I'd go with the Saphire one, but eh...

and yes, the 9800 Pro is MUCH MUCH better then anything else in that price range.

and the entire NVidia FX series of cards do not have proper DirectX 9 support, meaning HL2 will run like dry mud with full details

I've got a P4 2.4Ghz 1 gig ddr mem, bfg 6800 gtoc with 256 megs ddr3 mem. I've been playing doom3 with close to max settings (can't go absolute max because the game says I need a 512 meg bd), everything else maxed out, runs great! My system should run hl2 fine at max
settings!

If you already haev 1 gig you will not have the use for another gig, the game only takes som much. It only takes what it needs. And Doom 3 will never ever need 2 gig of ram.

Waste of money!

Might as well buy Radeon 9700 Pro, its just as fast as Radeon 9800 Pro, as a matter of fact, I overclocked mine and its acutally alot faster then a 9800 Pro.
